I don't know that the term "brothers in Christ" or "sisters in Christ" is an actual Bible phrase. But, believers are called by one another "brothers", for example, in James 4, Galatians 1, Hebrews 2, and many others. And, Paul refers to "a brother or sister" in 1 Cor. 7:15, speaking of them as believers.

It is a recognition of our kinship in Christ. It does not, however, override the family roles of a parent. My daughter may be my sister in Christ, but she is still my daughter and I am still her father.
