Does anyone care to expound on job 5:19?

He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

Don't have time right now but look to see if this is part of one of Job's supposed friends advice which begins in chapter 4.

I ran into a scripture the other day that was not what I thought it was because it was coming from one of Job's friends.

What I mean by that is , Job's friends thought they could help Job, thought they knew his problems, however they really didn't. So anything they came out with wasn't Biblical truth but rather a baseless opinion on their part.

Does that make sense?

We can say the right thing and still be wrong. We can be correct in speaking what God does, but apply it or offer its application incorrectly. I've been reading Job --- truly, I find it the most difficult book of the bible to read, even more so than Revelation --- and when I read over chapter 5 I kept thinking, "When you read these words in a chapter, it sounds almost like something from Proverbs." But, Eliphaz was in a conversation, as you know, and he did the thing I'm afraid I'm prone to do: concern with "technical correctness", wrong timing, and perhaps not right frame of mind. Job would've been better off mayber if Eliphaz had just hushed.

Job is a tough book to get ahold of while reading it, to me at least.

In reading one realize the style of writing akind to Proverbs in that one sentence will have two members. Where the first makes a declaration and the second member repeats or reaffirms. In this case the style of writting is called synonymous parallelism. What I gather from the six troubles until the seventh would be the number seven as completion. In other words it the same, but in a different way in poetic style told to Job to be happy in the correction of God for it is only for a season and when it come to it's end it would have been for good. (my 0.2 cents)

Well Scooter, I'm not prepared to disagree or agree with you yet I do want to say that I was "picked apart" here on Jude 2 a couple of years ago for suggesting that not everything in the Bible was the Word of God but merely a record book which also included the Word of God among the word of others. I still stand by that though I was "persecuted for the truth's sake". :D

Response: I can see how that could happen.

I don't want to split hairs but it's probably in the way you say it.

Surely the entire Bible is the Word of God. Within the Bible though there are records or things said that one should not take out of context and say "This is the Word of God" meaning you should do this.

The record of Job's friend's advice we know did not accurately reflect God's opinion on Job's matter. At least that is what I think without digging into it.
