Email extraction question

I'm thinking of dumping AT&T as my phone/internet provider at work. I have over 6,000 emails stored in my inbox, though, and I need to be able to access them from time to time. They go back a good 5 years. One reason why I haven't already switched is I do not know how or if I can grab those emails and either store them on my hard drive or forward them en masse to, say, a gmail account. I don't want just the addresses; I want the actual emails.
AT&T uses Yahoo! mail, if that helps. I do know it won't let me do a mass forwarding by doing a select all, etc.

Billy, thank you. I will try that this weekend. This could be a real benefit.

You should also be able to set up your Outlook program on your personal PC. My yahoo, gmail, and others all go to the Outlook on my PC which stores all emails on my hard drive. When I initially set up my Yahoo (which is similar to the AT&T)...all of my emails were downloaded to my Outlook...old and new alike...there are instructions online on how to set up Outlook for POP and IMAP servers...I would suggest looking into that.

Just fyi -- I tried the YPOP and Thunderbird thing to no avail. Not working. Don't have Outlook, either, on this computer.
Not the BEST option, but works

Create your new e-mail account with large storage...
Select all your e-mail (click select all) and forward to your new e-mail.
It will be harder to navigate and find an e-mail, but you would have them.

They've got me there, too. It won't allow you to do that. Gives you the message to select them one at a time.

Have you purged your emails lately? I just went through my box and deleted around 2500 unnecessary emails. Purging might help you get to a point that you could forward your important ones to another location.

Gmail should work. Here's one option they have

Dolfan,
Does your at&t email support POP access? If so, and if enabled, you can use Gmail's mail fetcher to store emails and contacts from up to five emails on your gmail account. Read more
HERE. Hope that helps friend.

I tried that, but it wouldn't work. I don't think AT&T supports pop3.

Bummer.
Have you talked to at&t about it?
Are you sure?

I read somewhere that AT&T disabled that in 2009. I know I can't find it if they do support it, and that Answer in Y! was in 2007. I know -- it is the kind of thing that makes me grind teeth.

Finally chatted with AT&T Tech Service rep. Says it can't be done. How's them apples?
