Washing my dear friend's feet...

Postby Phil Hoover » October 2nd, 2011, 3:33 pm

One of the best friends I've had in a very long time..Brandon...is leaving to become a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corp NEXT FRIDAY...

How God brought us together in friendship is something that only GOD can do.

Brandon is coming over for dinner tomorrow night at my place.

For a couple weeks, I keep sensing the LORD telling me to "wash his feet" before he leaves my apartment tomorrow night.

I want to be obedient...and I want to do this...but I'm also praying for an "open heart" in my friend...who loves Jesus, but may not understand what I want to do.

Will you help me pray about tomorrow evening (Monday, October 3rd)?
There is a ROCK between me and a hard place. His name is JESUS.

Thanking the LORD...

A wonderful evening of food and fellowship...a lot of laughter, and many tears.

Before Brandon prepared to leave, I explained that I wanted to "wash his feet" just as Jesus had instructed His disciples to do for each other....(John 13)...

He was completely open...even willing...saying, "Yes, you can wash my feet ONLY if you allow me the blessing of washing your feet also."

We both shed many tears, prayed with great thanksgiving for the richness and depth of this relationship for the last almost-60 days; and invoking the grace and wisdom of the LORD for the days ahead.

He was raised nominal Lutheran, and had only seen "feetwashing" once before--when he was 14 years old, and went to a Pentecostal church with a neighbor of his (at the time).

I can't begin to describe how holy, sacred, and precious this time was for me...and for him, I'm sure.
There is a ROCK between me and a hard place. His name is JESUS.

Good testimony, Phil, and a moment to remember for life.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

Talked with Brandon

Postby Phil Hoover » October 6th, 2011, 10:35 pm

one last time while he is a "civilian"...yesterday afternoon.

One of the first things he told me was, "Being able to wash feet gave me a brand new love for JESUS..."

My prayers were answered!

Please keep Brandon Bolhous in your prayers over the next few months. The next 10 weeks will be some of the most challenging in his 26 years of life.

My only request is that he will walk closely with Jesus during his time at Officer Candidate School.

The Lord is with him....and I thank you all for reading these posts...and for praying...and for being the "people of God"...
