Would a Modern day Version say:

You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have principles, methods, and laws you can use to have a successful, easy and prosperous life, and rarely does the savior need to be preached.

I agree with your first member, but would say that the latter member could be 'and those same scriptures bear witness of that life in me'.
