Being out of the 'Windows' loop for years, can someone let me know if there is a truly free anti-spyware scan online? Need to check my son's laptop for possible intrusions.
Thanks,
pa

Okay. Downloaded the free AVG scan, but can't find it on the laptop. I thought it would be placed on the desktop, but it isn't there. I have searched every file I can think of and cant find it. Could there be a malicious program on my computer hiding it from me?

Check downloads files. I tell people download and install are 2 dif things. If you buy a microwave you have downloaded it. It is not installed until you take it out of the box and hook it up.

Yep. Unless there are multiple download files, that was the first place I checked: the download file found upon searching the main drive. It wasn't there.

I have had this issue b4. Esp downloaded from AVG.
It downloads an Installer program that downloads enough application to start the install but actually download the program as part of install process.
I like downloading the whole file . I get my AVG from this site.

It should drop the file in your download folder..
Try that..

To get off spyware and malware I use Malwarebytes here's the link.

Sometimes AntiVirus don't do as well picking up the newer spyware / malwares.
Malwarebytes, too.

I second the use of Malwarebytes.

I've used that in the past to clean up people's computers.

Yes. This worked. The AVG program found 4 backdoor trojan horses and another virus. Wonderful!
Thanks,
