We'll be heading there over the weekend of the 17th and 18th.

Obviously, knowing Liberty, KY is close to there, I am considering visiting Tommy Bate's church. That's my preferred style o worship, and it's far and few between anymore -- on that scale. However, while I enjoy his preaching, I have found it a bit shallow at times. So I'm definitely not set in stone on that location, though certainly leaning that way. Who knows when I'll get the chance again. Ya know?

Still, for those who may know, what are some other good churches in that area to visit? We're looking to attend a Sunday morning service somewhere near there.

Thanks!

Btw if any of my minister friends here have churches in that vicinity I'd be just as happy to visit with you and to be blessed by your ministry. Or, if you preferred, My wife and I would even be open to blessing you and your church in ministry instead.

I don't have a recommendation for you, but if my KY geography lessons are still correct, I don't think Liberty, KY is near Cincinnati. Liberty is between Campbellsville and Waynesburg.

Oops! Not Liberty, but rather Independence, KY. One can understand the ease of confusion there, yes?

Yeah, Tommy Bates sure preaches a lot about the old time Pentecostals and all the wondersous things they could pray up. Stirs [manipulates] your emotions, Oh if only we could be like them!!

Be kinda nice if he'd preach scripture with such alacrity.

I haven't heard him that often to know. I heard him preach on holiness one time though, and he tore it up! I like his style of preaching/delivery and worship. It's very similar to that of our own heritage. However, as I said, I've also noticed he can be kind of shallow in his preaching too.

To be honest, I haven't been in that many larger gatherings with bona fide Pentecostal worship since I left TCOG. I miss that kind of expressiveness and liberty in corporate worship. So I thought Bate's church might be a great chance to experience something like that. If it's purely hype and charismania then I don't care to go. But if it's genuine, sincere, heartfelt worship -- reminiscent of old time Pentecost -- then I'd like to keep it open as a strong possibility.

What other churches would you suggest in that basic vicinity?

TCOG has large gatherings? I think Bates church pulls in more than a TCOG Assembly! That sounds snarky but it's true.

Isn't Rod Parseleys church is up that way somewhere...but thats a big step down.

Bates DOES have the Pentecostal style to the max. He's like a white TD Jakes without the modalism and money-lust. ANd he certainly knows how to WORk the Pentecostal heart. I don't want it thought that I dont like him, I do have a Pentecostal heart and he has stirred it. I just recognize when I'm being manipulated and when I'm not hearing much scripture.
