Age and Leadership

Postby paul » August 28th, 2013, 11:02 am

Interesting article in Charisma Mag. this month. Dr. Wood who is the General Superintendent for the Assembly of God is 71 years old. The article states of his success of engaging the youth generation into the flow of the organization. The organization boast of 1.3 million members under 25. He makes a strong connection between engaging the youth with Church Planting and Missions. Just thought it interesting considering some topics in the past about aged leadership.
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting
and preserving yourself.

This is an interesting subject. The carnal mind assumes that youth has the advantage. It does when we think about the physical demands of the ministry or any job. However, experience is priceless that leads to wisdom. Two attributes you cannot learn in school. I have alluded to age being a question when it comes to the office of GO. This job requires physical strength to travel and complete the requirements this job demands. At the same time, it will require someone with wisdom and experience. Last but not least, it comes down to what God wants. If He wants an older person for a particular job, He will give that person the strength required. We need to trust the Lord.
