Which version of the bible do you prefer?

I personally use the NIV bible because of the people i come in contact with on an everyday basis. Teenagers are now leaning towards NIV and NLT from my observation. I think NLT is great if used for devotional purposes, but to difficult to follow along with a message in KJV. What do you all think?

When I worked in a Christian bookstore and people would come in asking for Bibles, our normal response was "what version?" and once we had this lady say "Oh, uh. . . . the Holy Bible!"

The question is too broadly asked. If I want to turn my mind on then sometimes the Amplified Bible. If it's poetic imagery I'm hot for then the King James. The NIV is great for a good peruse through. Did I mention the original Greek? There are interlinear translations with the original Greek and that is so cool to meditate with...

It would seem there's a world of options out there. Wouldn't it?

I prefer the NIV or NLT, but for an interesting read the new Message bible is different.

I have three (maybe four, depends on how your count) versions here in my room. I have a NIV, two small Gideon Bibles (one in Portuguese, my friend in Brazil gave it to me when I was there), and New Revised Standard Version (NRSV). I tend to read the NRSV more than the other versions. Not sure why really.

Thats how I am. I have 4 or 5 translations. The Message Remix bible is a very good bible. I had forgot about it. Some of my friends use it and i have been thoroughly impressed. I guess the point would be to find one that suits you and your personality and stick with it. Find one that you can easily understand. If any one else has suggestions or comments on their favorite translation, and why, feel free to add.

If I try to memorize a verse, I think it's easier from the King James, but just for me I love the NIV, much easier to read and understand.

And did you know that all concordances are compiled in reference to the KJV. That is unless there's been a new one come out that I am not aware of.

So if you're going to look something up in your concordance, you will need to have a good handle on the good old King Jimmy.

That's not true. I have a NIV Concordance and an NAS Concordance. I asked Dr. Tony Charalambou one time what he felt was the most accurate version of the original manuscripts (since he has studied and seen very ancient manuscripts of the Bible) and he said the NKJV, so I stick with that mostly. But I do have every version avalible in my library. I like the Teen Bibles that read like a magazine that are out now, it helps when your teaching a teen class.

I read the NIV but I tend to think in KJV, if that makes any sense.

I love reading the ESV - English Standard Version
Easier than KJV, but closer to KJV than NIV.

I'm pretty much a KJV Onlyist. Not that its the infalible version but thats what I read and preach.

I have all the other versions even one called the word which is a mix of 26 differing versions.

NASB, but I couldn't vote for it because it wasn't an option.

Absolute sense. I love to read NIV but when it comes to my memory it is KJV from years and years of exposure.
