"Judge Alito's reputation has only grown over the span of his service. He has participated in thousands of appeals and authored hundreds of opinions. This record reveals a thoughtful judge who considers the legal matter -- marriage carefully and applies the law in a principled fashion. He has a deep understanding of the proper role of judges in our society. He understands that judges are to interpret the laws, not to impose their preferences or priorities on the people." _ President Bush.

I don't know - he has this big fuzzy growth on the side of his face (according to the above picture) that resembles our president. I am not sure how well that wold go over. :) (insert chuckle here)

I know nothing of him, but 15 years on the 3rd Circuit and being a former U.S. Attorney, with 12 cases argued before the Supreme Court is going to notch him in the qualified ranks. I figure the ABA will, like they did with John Roberts, give him its highest rating, although that's not needed (see, Clarence Thomas). So, he's up to the job, which was my main problem with Harriet Miers.

Both parties prepared for 'Armageddon' fight

"In 1990, a Democrat-controlled Senate unanimously confirmed Judge Alito as a circuit judge," Mr. Frist said in a statement dispatched 27 minutes before President Bush announced his selection. "I hope that my colleagues will give his nomination a fair opportunity this time as well."
Moments later, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat and member of the Judiciary Committee, took to the ramparts opposite Mr. Frist.
"It is sad that the president felt he had to pick a nominee likely to divide America instead of choosing a nominee in the mold of Sandra Day O'Connor, who would unify us," he [Charles E. Schumer] said. "This controversial nominee, who would make the court less diverse and far more conservative, will get very careful scrutiny from the Senate and from the American people."

This spin just isn't going to stick Chuckie.
