Golf Season & A Proud Dad

Postby Rob » August 7th, 2007, 3:05 am

It's High School Golf season here in Kentucky and my Daughter Taylor is playing again.

She had her first match last night and they won the Tri-Match. Taylor shot a 61 on a course she had never played before.

But here's the real kicker. Taylor is a 5th grader, 10 years old and she is starting for the varsity High School Team!

I am so proud of her, and hopefully if she keeps it up this will be her meal ticket to college! Thanks for listening to a proud Dad.

Incredible!

does the High School have to get some sort of waiver to allow someone not in HighSchool to play on their team?
Let the wild rumpus start!

Great question Paully. The High School does not have to get a waiver, however, since Taylor has "played up", which means she is not a High School student and playing varsity sports, that now she is locked into that school. Which means she can not transfer to let's say Somerset or Pulaski Southwestern to play any sport without losing a year of eligibility. The only way she would not lose that year is if there is a physical change of address..

Now she has to have a physical to play just like any other player playing any sport. The High School cares some sort of insurance on her that only applies while that sport is in season, etc.

Today is a big day for Taylor. A 5th grader playing in her first 18 hole High School Golf Tourney. Her tee time is 2:05 PM. I will post later this evening to let everyone know how she did. Was is so sad in my opinion is not that she is walking but how hot it will be at the time of day. Any way regardless how she does I'm so proud of her.

As a side note, so folks don't think I'm disregarding my younger daughter she is in a softball tourney in Lawrenceburg, KY today with her mom, that's kind of how our summer has been. I go one way with one daughter and Anita goes the other way with the other. But it is so great to have girls that are athletic.

Thanks for listening.

Yesterday was a great day for not only Taylor but her team as well. Last year in that tourney they shot 506, this year they shot 381, that's right 125 strokes better. Taylor shot a 126, but she possibly had the shot of the day on hole number 15 a 177 yard par 3 from about 70 yards out she chipped in for a birdie. Needless to say dad when nuts! Her team finished 10th out of 20 teams, beat all but 2 teams in her region. Last year they finished dead last. So they are doing much better.

Also, her picture is suppose to be in Tuesday's newspaper, and I will give an update on that.

Thanks again for listening.

Taylor's pic was in the local paper today, but not on the paper's web site. Need to figure out how to get it on here so you guys can see. She looks great, I'm so proud of her.

She had another match last night, they lost as a team. She had a terrible night too, she shot a 69.

Guess I can't say to much she is only in the 5th grade.

Taylor had another match last night as a team they won, but Taylor had a terrible night. We got her a new set of clubs and she played with them last night for the first time and it was not a good choice for us.

She doesn't have another match until next Monday, so hopefully we can practice with these clubs and get better before the next match.

I'll keep you posted.

Just a quick update on Taylor.

They had another match last night against Madison Southern and won big time. Taylor had her best 9 holes of the year. She shot a 56. She had 3 par's last night I was very proud of her. If she keeps this up that means dad may only have a few more years left of golf.

Yesterday was one of the top tourney's held in the State for girls golf. The KIT in Russell Springs, KY. 7 of the State's Top Ten teams where there. As a matter of fact, the defending State Champs and the girl that was the individual state champ was there as well.

Having said all of that, PC did well out of 22 teams we finished 13th. Not bad considering we start 2 sophmores, 1 freshman, 1 8th grader and 1 5th grader.

As for Taylor, she did very well she shot a 123. But what I found out that was so interesting was that she was the youngest in the field to tee off. She was the only 10 year old to play. There were other 5th graders but they were 11 instead of 10.

We also finished 3 out of the teams that were in our region. So we have to improve some to finish in the top 2 to go to the State Tourney.
