Just out of curiosity, for all you Georgia/SEC fans: What if?

What IF Hawaii beats Georgia in the Sugar Bowl? Will you then show Hawaii some respect, or do the usual shuck-n-jive excuses...

"It was just luck."
"Georgia beat themselves."
"The officials were lousy."
"It was a fluke."

Go ahead and tell me now, not later.

I think a team like Hawaii who have acknowledged God's favor and blessings upon them all year, and have a bunch of on-fire Christian athletes, and want it SO BAD, may surprise the arrogant, the-SEC-is-better-than-thou pups from Georgia. That's what I think.

PG - that is a hypothetical question. Which will lead me to this question before I answer yours. IF Hawaii loses will you admit they had not business playing with the big boys, not just the SEC but the BCS?

How on to your question. Let's say UGA turns the ball over 4-5 times, 3 by fumble and 2 by interception. Also for the sake of this discussion, that the 3 fumbles where just dropped, not a real good hit that would cause a fumble and the 2 interceptions where on tipped balls that should have been caught. Then I think we could say UGA beat themselves. However, if those 3 fumbles were caused by great hits, and the 2 interceptions where great plays by the defense, then Yes by all means, Hawaii deserved to be there and was the better team.

For the record, I'm not an SEC guy either.

in my jaded opinion, they have every right to be there based on the way the BCS is set up to recognize "at-large" teams.

If they have no right to be there (even if undefeated) then the BCS needs to no longer recognize their conference.

I think I am the only one so far to have picked them over GA in our J2 bowl picks. I really think they have a chance to compete with GA. If they can compete, then can win. If they don't, they still deserved to be there.

The system is set up to where they have an At Large bid. So as far as that is concerned they have as much right being in the Sugar Bowl as LSU and OSU being in the BCS NC game.

OSU and LSU won the BCS lottery..... It was funny watching it on Fox. Everyone in their stadiums or locker rooms or whereever waiting to see if their number is called.

Question: I don't remember the old system that much. How did it work? Rose Bowl was a Pac-10/Big-10 match up. What were the others? Who picked the champions? The AP or Coach's Poll?

Sorry to seem so ignorant of the old ways! :D

PG,

I have no problem with Hawaii there, and unless there is a thread that I have missed, I don't know where you are getting the "SEC attitude" bit that you have brought up before. Now, watching Fox Sports, ESPN, and listening to several national sports talk shows, the overwhelming consensus has been the SEC has been the strongest overall conference this year. Should we not be proud of that attention? Should we take an incredibly humble attitude like you have and never mention the success of our teams (oh wait, you boasted all the time about how incredible Hawaii was).

As a UT fan, I know UGA is beatable. This was one of our worst teams in years and we still beat them. Have at them and brag. If you are good, you deserve it. Unless you are the SEC and then you are supposed to be humble, right?

For the record. A few years ago, I can't remember who, but it was a team and I'm thinking someone like TCU had a run where they final lost in the last game that kept them from getting in a BCS bowl. Under the old rules you had to finish in the top 6 of the BCS standing to get a BCS bowl.

So what does the BCS do, they add another bowl, the BCS NC bowl so that a team like Hawaii now all they have to do is be ranked in the top 12 to qualify for a BCS bowl. You know kinda like what grandma use to do if she didn't have enough gravy she would water it down so there would be enough to go around.

So under the old system Hawaii would not have qualified. The only problem that I have with Hawaii is who have they played? Boise in conference and a poor Washington team. And yes I am aware that was one of OSU out of conference teams as well.

Now as I duck and read the comments about who has OSU played and so forth and so on.

Old System was as follows:

Rose Bowl: Big Ten/Pac 10
Orange: Big 8/ At large team Before the South West Conference dissolved.
Sugar: SEC/ At Large
Fiesta: Two At Large Teams
Cotton: South West Conference/At Large

Then there were two polls AP/media UPI/Coaches Poll and you could have a split National Champion.

Jeff, what rock have you been hiding under? You guys that root for an SEC team and even those not on this board have this as PG said, Holy-than thou attitude when it comes to the SEC. Go back and re-read some of the threads on this forum and you will see. While it may not directly been said, that impression one is left with is, "no body outside that conference is any good or can play football!" I know I live in the SEC. Here in KY they have two decent years in football and suddenly they are the football gods! I have been somewhat of a UK fan, but this year it has totally turned me off.

So I totally understand where PG is coming from! I live with it everyday!

Yeah but Rob, you live in Kentucky. They aren't exactly the most educated group on the face of the earth. Here in TN, we know there is football outside of the SEC. :D

If Hawaii wins, PG, I'll give them much respect. That's a big "if" though.
