Final Poll

LSU is #1 in both polls

1. LSU
2. Georgia
3. USC
4. Mizzou
5. OSU

Wow, I thought with the influence a the north and west coast that USC would end up #2, but they came through and Georgia is #2.

What do you think of the poll?

It's funny that Mizzou did not play in a BCS game and still came out #4 while Kansas was # 7 after their big win in a BCS game. The voters can't make up their minds on those two teams.. :D

I just wish my Dawgs could play LSU in one final game. We'd show everybody who #1 is. Good poll BTW.

I feel the same way about USC. I wish they had a chance to play LSU

They'd better because next year, I think now that UGA goes all the way in the SEC at least. If that's true, and I don't think they'll be a 2-loss SEC champion, either, they'll be in the BCS championship picture, odds are.

I was shocked that my Eer's where 6 in both polls.

We beat an OK team that Missouri couldn't do twice and they finished ahead of us.

Here's my opinion for what it's worth. LSU beat OSU last night, but in my mind LSU the #1 team. I think USC could and would beat them, and I think the way the Eer's played in the Fiesta bowl we would have a good shot at beating them.

How can anyone in their right mind wish UGA would play LSU now, after the bowl games, when you couldn't even win your division of the SEC? Someone explain that to me.

Same reason you don't have to win your division in any other NCAA sport to be the national champion.

We never played LSU during this season. We lost those 2 games to SC and UT early in the season and lost control of our destiny. Then we got our act together and didn't lose again. If we had a chance to play LSU either in the SEC championship or a national championship, it would have been a heck of a game, and I'm convinced that we could have beat them, the way we were playing toward the end of the season.

You lost to SC at home early and lost to UT in the first week of Oct. While granted UGA was playing very well at the end of the year. UGA still did not win their division, you can slice it any way you want you didn't win your division.

Having said that, my person opinion for what it's worth, I think every BCS conference should have a conference championship game to qualify for the BCS and/or NC. Whether it is an 8 team conference, 10 or 12 team and have a league championship game.

I don't see why that is confusing.

Let me ask it differently. Do you have to win the SEC championship to be national champion in basketball? baseball? volleyball? tennis?

You don't have to answer. The answer is no. You have to be ranked high enough to be invited to the tournament.

So, why would it be any different for football?

Because I didn't understand what you were asking.

No you don't have to win now, you use to, and you have to have a good enough record in conference and have a high RPI to get an at-large bid for the NCAA in just about all of those sports.

So, why would it be any different for football?

Well let's see football only has 12 games, basketall has 30+ baseball 40+ not sure about volleyball and tennis. Plus the way football is regulated is a lot different than those other sports. If you don't win the conference championship game you don't qualify for the NC game. If you lose one game in football in a normal year you're out of the running for the NC. You can lose 4-5 in basketball and still win the NC. Same in all of those other sports.

My point with UGA, while I readily agree they were playing the best of just about anybody in the country at the end of the season, they did not win their division or their conference. Just can't see how a team can play for NC when they don't do that. One step further I think UT should have received the Sugar Bowl invite instead of UGA having played in the SEC Championship game, that's my opinion.

I understand what you are saying, I just don't agree. I think whoever is playing the best football at the end of the season deserves to be the national championship.

Imagine if UT would have beat LSU at the SEC Championship game. We basically played their second tier team because of injuries. If UT would have one, they would not have been the best team in the SEC (probably not in the top four) but would have been the only one qualified under your way. Thus eliminating very strong teams in LSU, Florida, and UGA. It wouldn't have been truly the best of the best.

While I understand what you are saying and to a point agree with you, football will never have what you are saying they need to have until you have a playoff system in place. For the most part the NC is a mystical champion at best. However, at this stage of the game it is what it is.

I remember when in the NCAA basketball if you didn't win the league tourney you stayed home or went to the NIT. I think expanding to 64 teams (oops 65) has watered down that tourney. That's my opinion.
