Okay .... I loved it. I admit it, I confess it, I plead 100% guilty to it, I thought it was funny for the exact opposite reasons you may have. You gotta understand that there's just this down-in-our-hearts contempt for each other's schools, "man". For me, it goes way deeper than any dismissive, "whatever" feelings about Auburn. I don't like Auburn, but I hate UT. I just do. I can't help it. I wish I didn't. Everything this guy said I've either heard said or said it myself on a dozen occasions or more. I like Tennesseeans, I like the state of Tennessee, I lived in Tennessee, I think it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and we wouldn't have our whole musical culture without it, and Nashville is just one of my favorite places ever. BUT, and I know this won't endear me to anyone inside the Volunteer State, but I hate the University of Tennessee. Great college, great campus, but good gosha'mighty I hate it. And, they hate the University of Alabama, and I've just decided that's the way it should be. We can be great neighbors, but we are not friends. Once a year, we are bitter, I'd-rather-kill-you-than-look-at-you enemies. And, don't get sanctimonious because they feel the EXACT same way about us. When it's over, I still hate UT win or lose, but I WILL be nice to them and I will take a good-natured middle finger from 'em after the game and just nod and smile back right after I tell him where to stick it. No harm intended.
I teach my daughter: "We are Alabama fans. Roll Tide Roll. We don't like Auburn, and we will always hate the University of Tennessee." It's a mantra, and she knows it.
NOW, lest you all think I'm a complete monster, if Tennessee is playing somebody else and their win helps Bama somehow, well, I'm for UT. I'm not so high-minded in my hatred that I lose sight of what's really important, and that's Bama's success.
And, by the way, to all of you UT fans on here --- I don't hate you. I love you. I love UT fans in general, because they make it fun and safe to actually hate something as bad as I hate UT without it really meaning anything. So ..... thanks, I guess.
