What I learned from the 1st weekend in college football

Postby Rob » August 31st, 2008, 3:49 am

1st - The ACC is terrible. I remember a few years ago when BC, Miami and VA Tech left the BE for the ACC and the talk that the BE should lose it's BCS bowl because of it. Now, the team that the ACC is hanging their hat on gets blown out by a middle of the pack SEC team. The only two wins the ACC had this weekend was Maryland over I-AA Delaware, and UNC of a 1-AA team. If Clemson goes through the ACC and wins convincingly that will go further to prove how weak the ACC is. Va. Tech upset by ECU.

2nd - Fraudriquez doesn't have his player to run the spread up north. He may beat Miami next week, but look out after that. Going to be a long season up north. (and I love it).

3rd - The SEC was impressive. Florida won big, UGA did well, Auburn had a good showing. But the team that impressed me the most was Bama. They shut down Clemson. The two freshman, WR and RB OH MY!!! Give Saban one more year and look out! The Tide is back and will compete for the league crown.

4th - The top 8 teams won, and out of that Florida and USC where the most impressive. OSU could really take a blow if Beanie Wells is seriously hurt.

5th- I'm so glad college football is back!!!!

AMEN to that.....my favorite time of year.

Bama looks very good. I wish USC would play a few more SEC teams....im so sick of hearing about them from the journalist on tv. Did ANYONE who reports on ESPN go to a SEC school to get their journalism degree? They are in love with USC.

I am on the Tebow wagon though......hes fun to watch.

They'd still go undefeated.

UGA took a big hit with the Jesse Owens going out for the year with a torn ACL.

Rate our injuries are happening we will not last long.

BAMA was impressive. ACC is a joke. I was the UNC game before they suspended it for a while because of ligthening. They double printed tickets and I was highly upset about that. I had 17 kids with me, it did not bode well.

I cannot stand USC and I am looking forward to Ohio State and them playing. That will be a great game.

and like Pastor Rob, thank God football is back

First off USC played UVA an ACC team.

Second - if USC played in the SEC, they would not go undefeated. USC is good, but playing that level of competion week in and week out they would get beat.

ESPN's Mike Gottfried is the uncle of UA hoops coach Mark Gottfried (whose cousin, BTW, is Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh).

Tom Luginbill, ESPN's recruiting guru and one of the big wheels as Scouts dot com, was the coach of the af2 team Tennessee Valley Vipers in Huntsville when they went to the Arena Cup the first time.

ESPN's Rece Davis grew up here, graduated from UA.

NONE of them have ever been kind to Bama, coverage wise, especially Davis.
