At least they have the gumption to pull the trigger. Here at the University of Washington where Tyrone Willingham should never have been hired in the first place we are winless this year (first time in 39 years to be 0-5) allowing nearly 500 yards on defense per game, and the the AD comes out and says, Tyrone's job is safe? puhleaze.

I think, honestly, it was an affirmative action hire. Willingham has never been a successful coach. There was absolutely no reason to hire him at Washington. Washington has a fine football tradition (they, not Bud Wilkins at Oklahoma, hold the longest win streak of record -- 63 games), and 2 national championships. He was a little over .500 at ND. At Stanford, he won two PAC Coach of the Year awards --- for winning seven games in a season each time. That'll get you fired in the SEC.
He did go to the Rose Bowl, though. Hats off to him. (Stanford lost.)
At Washington, he's been an unmitigated disaster. Now that the West Coast and Notre Dame are through passing him around as their token societal breakthrough, maybe Washington can hire a coach that can win. Seems that all that feel-good stuff doesn't put people in the stadium seats.

I hope Booby Johnson doesn't head to his Alma Mater, Clemson.

Clemson should have fired him last year, but no they gave him a contact.
Bad timing yes  And I'm not a fan.
