When that was announced yesterday, they still were saying they are not willing to mark him off the list as a possibility for UT. Mack Brown hasn't said anything about retiring.

Do you really believe he is going to stay an assistant coach for a long time just waiting for the head guy to retire?

It hasn't worked for any of the other guys that have signed on for those kind of deals. All that seems to happen is you are always a coach in waiting and your value goes down in the eyes of everyone else.

I agree and think it was a mistake.

Of course a 900,000 a year mistake but hey who is looking at dollar signs

Well, I dunno. He seems happy with it. $900K a year to be a coordinator? That's big. He'll have a ready made job and deep roots in the culture of that program and recruiting. Seems, to me anyway, like a good situation for him. I don't know how these things will go for him and Jimbo Fisher at FSU, etc. The thing is how committed is he to it. Well, he let Texas announce it publicly, so that's a pretty tough commitment to break without burning bridges. I just don't think he's going to do that now. 1-2 years from now? Maybe. But, I don't see it happening before he works under that new deal for a season or two at least. Just my opinion.

So they doubled Muschamp's salary to keep doing the exact same job. I am thankful for my job, but what kind of fantasy land would I have to live in to get my salary doubled just to keep doing the same job? I used to think that my children should play golf for a living to set themselves up for life. Now, maybe they should just become football or basketball coaches.

It is college footballs way of trying to keep a coach, ky did it with joker phillips, WHY? if the job is that great when it does come open he will be willing to come back if the money is right.

ALSO this little deal is not a deal breaker, when you have college coaches that can break a signed contract months after signed with no big problem, A deal to give you a job in the future, not sure when is a total joke. You tell me that if Ky can get a guy alot better than Joker when grandpa brooks steps down they will not do it because they already have joker you are crazy.

I will say this if TN wants him and wants to pay him no other deal to make a coach in the future will ever stop him from taking the job.
