Iron Bowl predictions

Postby dolfan » November 24th, 2008, 9:43 am

Well, folks, its the week of the Alabama-Auburn game, or if you are technically correct, since Bama's at home, the Auburn-Alabama game.

ESPN has rated this game as the greatest rivalry in college football (this was from 2006; they also rated UM/OSU as the greatest rivalry in all of sports with Bama/Auburn at #8, so they have some issues there that require a theologian waaaaay above my abilities to work out). I think it is the second greatest, personally (Bama/UT being #1 in my book).

Now, most of you folks here are Tennesseeans, and I respect that. So, I know what I'm going to get when I ask your predictions for this weekend's game. But, I'm asking.

Pastor Gary, being a native Alabamian (not "Alabaman", as the yankee papers say), I'd like to hear your predictions. Our men's basketball team is in Maui today playing in a tournament there (they play Oregon State tonight at 11 PM CST), just by the way on a completely irrelevant point.

So, what do you think? I'm being highly cautious with my optimism. Vegasinsider has Bama at a 15 point favorite. If I was a betting man, I'd take Auburn and the points. But, I do think Alabama will win by a touchdown, late.

My prediction: Alabama 24, Auburn 17

We will be watching (if we are not at the hockey game) since Kimmy is big time Bama fan.

I don't know what to expect. On paper, it should be a slaughter. However, as with Vandy and UT, sometimes the better team doesn't win because rivalry does matter.

You don't want me to quote Saban on the "on paper" comments, do you?
