Breaking news just 10 minutes ago. Tommy Tuberville is fired.

The motto this year....don't risk a new style of offensive coordinator. Look where it got Fulmer and Tubberville.

Fans burning up the Auburn forum on al.com. 40% or so mad that Tuberville is gone, 40 % or so glad, and 20% stupid Bama fans just flaming.

Alabama newspapers are reporting that Mike Leach is the guy in their crosshairs. Personally, I WISH they'd hire him because he's a west coast hippie freak and he'll fit in here about like ..... ummmmm ..... Mike Price. Plus, I wouldn't mind Auburn having a spin at the wheel of misfortune with coaches named Mike! I don't think being provincial is key, but when you're out there recruiting kids, you need to be able to connect and I just don't know that Leach is that guy in this state. I hope they try, because Alabama will absolutely wipe the floor with him at AU in recruiting and on the field. I just don't know if the deal gets done. Texas Tech's AD has already publicly committed to renegotiate Leach's contract and extend it. As it stands now, prior to all that, he gets $1.85 M in '09 and $2.1 M in '10. My question is how much MORE than what Tech will probably pay him is Auburn willing to fork out to a guy who'll be expected to recruit in a much smaller pool against the likes of Saban, Meyer, Richt, et.al. I don't know. He's also a Mormon. If you don't know it, Auburn, Alabama and Lee County is incredibly cliquish and very much unwelcoming to anyone "not from here". And, Mormons are considered "not from here."

So, maybe they go after a Chris Peterson (sp?) or make a run at Appalachian State's coach (which, as I ponder it, intrigues me as Jim Tressel and Paul Johnson have been national champ coaches in the lower divisions), who has 2 consecutive FCS national titles. He's already in the south. He beat Michigan in the big house. I just find some upsides there that I don't know if Auburn would be willing to risk the downsides to get at it.
