George O'Leary was fired for fudging his resume before coaching a game at Notre Dame. He apologized, but lost his job.

Mike Price was fired for a tryst with a stripper in Florida before coaching a game at Alabama. He apologized, but lost his job.

Pitino had sex with a woman in a restaurant and paid her off, quite possibly financing her abortion; she's doubly stupid by trying to extort him for his own idiocy. He apologized, and his boss holds him up as an example of mistaken judgment and second chances.

All I can say is Louisville needs Pitino more than Pitino needs them. He was willing to sacrifice it all for a moment of pleasure in what may be one of the absolute most irresponsible displays in the history of coaching. They reward him by accepting his apology, with recent history of other coaches doing much less but losing their jobs. Pitino looks like a scoundrel; the woman acts like a mongrel; the university's action reminds me of Michael Jackson's hangers-on. Their call, though.

Pitino, has a morality clause in his contract. In my opinion they (UL) wasted the ink they wrote that contract with. The question that I have is this will Rick be able to handle all the Pro-Life protester's who show up not only in Louisville, but but on the road to heckle him and his team.

I also wonder what UNC would do if this had been Roy Williams, or Duke would have done with Coach K, as Dolfan has already stated we know what Notre Dame has done and Bama, and even USC with Floyd. Even IU fired Bobby Knight. Cincinnati fired Bobby Huggins, and the list goes on. Guess your right Dolfan, UL needs Rick more than Rick needs UL.

As long as the Benjamins keep piling up in his bank account, I am sure he'll handle it ok.

The disgusting part to me is where this occured.....Hope the restaurant was well cleaned before it opened for business the next day.
Let the wild rumpus start!

I do believe that forgiveness should be extended to Coach Pitino, but I strongly question UofL's President concerning his statement that Pitino has been a role model for countless young people. Is that with an exception clause?

Well I have not been on here in some time, but I thought I would chime in on this topic, Rob I bet you have been waiting for this.

OK I think what Rick did was stupid and wrong. But to rise to the level of losing his job I think is really extreme.

First let me say while I think Rick did a stupid thing, everyone acts like everything that is being reported is fact, which it is not, Most of what people are reading is her claims and her side of the story.

l Will say Had this happened during the season or On campus, or with someone involved with the university in any way I can say that would be a problem, not sure if his job should be on the line but a problem.

Some people act like it is a problem since he is married, problem with that is he and his wife for the most part live like they are divorced now, she is not in town that much. Next is there is some doubt about her even being pregnant, as well as Rick being the father. The thing that might hurt him the most is giving her money that she claims was for an abortion, while he denies that only he know for sure what was in his mind.

I find it so funny that some think he should lose his job for something that had no connection to his work, And as many around here has stated that if the President can do what he did and not lose his Job, Rick should be ok.

But what I think is so funny is that Rick's name is being mentioned in the same breath as Coaches that had threatened players as well as a coach that continued to recruit players that had legal problems and continued to have legal problems, Lying about a resume is not that big a deal but to think that is why ND got rid of him you are delusional, they got rid of him because of the pressure they got for not looking at a black coach. BUT what I think is more absurd is that Rick is supposed to lose his job, yet The Kittens hire a coach that his wife left him for having affairs with students, they hire a coach that has two DUI's before they hired him, he was stopped for drunk driving several times while he was in lex, The university was so outraged that they covered it up and got him a driver. And when they fired him they claim the High road and say he had a drinking problem.. WELL DUH THEY KNEW THAT THEN...

There are several coaches all over the country that done the same thing Rick has done. I mean I am a UT fan and Bruce did worst, he had an ongoing affair all during the season and ended up dumping his wife for his chick on the side, There are rumors of a coach that had an affair with a basketball players girlfriend. I hate to shock you guys but it is going on all over the place. The only reason this came to light was that Rick went to the FBI instead of paying hush money. And I will be blunt, I don't think this is the only time he has had sex outside his marriage. For years there were rumors of a girl that he had on the side in Lexington that moved to Boston and now live in the Ville. There were pics of her behind the bench then and now.

I think what Rick did was totally wrong and stupid but I think it is a joke to think that he should lose his job when it had nothing to do with his job.

ALSO, When Rick was at lex I hated him and the kittens, when he was a boston I hated him and the celtics, Many of the reasons I hated Rick was because all we ever saw on the news was it was about him So when he came here I was not happy but I have changed my mind because he does not have to be on the news every second. Also Now I see that is was not as much him as the hype around the kitten program, we see the same thing now that cal is there.

AND UofL has a history before Rick and we will after he is gone. One of the top ten programs in College Basketball history. To say that We need him more than he need us is a joke it is like saying that Duke Needs Coach K or UNC needed Dean Smith, or Gtown needed Thompson.
