Boise St. v Tulsa

Okay, so, it was football. But, with all the vertical (and I mean vertical as in up and down in the air, not up and down the field) displays from these 2 teams, you couldn't really tell it. Tulsa didn't exactly set any records in the air, but that doesn't mean they didn't try; half of their yards in the air came on two plays in one drive in the fourth quarter. But, very little ground game was attempted. And, yeah, Boise's defense spent a lot of time in the Tulsa backfield, but it was a Chinese fire drill with the Tulsa quarterback running around like Fran Tarkenton but with his back always to the defense it seemed. The reason they got so much pressure on the guy was because he didn't know how to get rid of the ball or when. Tulsa may rack up some points on some really bad teams, but Boise is decent --- yet, they managed to keep this game close enough to call it one and covered the spread.
The thing that got me the most was the sheer amount of time the ball spent in the air on Wednesday night. That's what I don't like about that brand of football ---- throw the ball up, trust your guy to run under it first, and hit whatever you can. Throw it up enough times, and eventually the fastest set of guys will start to win over. Boise had more track stars on their offense than Tulsa did on their defense.
I'll say this for Boise State, though: they're fleet of foot. Kinda fun in a novelty sort of way, but not the kind of football I'd care to watch week in and week out.
