Lee Corso called my wife again today

Postby dolfan » November 15th, 2006, 10:19 am

He's called three times this week at home and missed her. Finally, he got her today (I know, it's crazy!). He told her he was disappointed in not hearing from "my friend from Alabama" this season. My wife told him she couldn't talk for mourning so much (Bama's 5 losses). Anyway, he told my wife that he was going to pick Alabama to beat Auburn this Saturday, and he said that John Parker Wilson (our QB) would be the difference in the game. IIIIII don't know so much about that. I do know that every Auburn fan I've talked to this week is nervous after they lost to Georgia like they did last week. We'll see.......

I'm a UGA fan so I def do not like AU, BUT for the sake of Iron Bowl Saturday, I do pull for AU because I don't like Alabama even more than I dislike Auburn. Here's how I roll... I LOVE UGA, Will pull for GA Tech unless they are playing UGA, and will pull for auburn ONLY if it will help UGA in the polls... and even if it would help UGA in the polls, I doubt I'd pull for Alabama... On Iron Bowl I give Eric some slack and for that one day I'll say War Eagle... BUT on UGA and AU game day, we are as good as Married, yet Divided...lol Definitely a house divided that day! Anything goes... we can talk all the smack we want, we can say what we want (as long as it's clean!) and if one gets too happy about something that the other doesn't like we can yell and scream and whatever else to get them to be quiet in all the bragging...lol It's just "our anything goes and you can't hold me responsible after the game" day! Last year I got so mad at the end of the game that I punched a chair and he cracked up at me... this year he had no room to laugh!!! :) (By the way, I'm super intense on this game day, more so than any other game, but I'm always loud and crazy during College Football season)

My wife told him, "Thanks for picking us. Now we'll lose." He is aware of that phenomenon in Alabama. He's been force fed "don't pick Bama" since the 1993 Sugar Bowl. He told my wife last year that nobody has passion for college football like people in Alabama. I like that.

Alvarez, sorry 'bout that Bama-hater in your soul. I always liked Georgia. Came over to watch them lose to Tennessee in 1996. Great stadium, beautiful campus.

Dolfan how does your wife know Lee Corso?

I hope this turns out to be a good game. I was doubtful until we played pretty decent against LSU.

LOL... :D I wasn't a hater till I moved here. I know alot of Bama fans, and between the Bama fans and the Auburn fans, MOST and I capped that to signify MOST of the Bama fans are cocky and arrogant.

NOW, to that I say, for all you Bama fans who aren't this way, I apologize :) I'm a HUGE UGA fan, but if we lose 4 games I'm not gonna go around and say UGA is better and this and that... I'll admit that yet I love UGA, they aren't playing as well as they could, and there's always next year.

At least 8 of 10 Bama fans I meet could be looking at a 0 - 10 losing streak and still talk smack and go on and on about how Bama could whoop anyone. Always talking Bama this and Bama that, but at the same time the only games they watch are Bama games so they really don't know all the other teams, yet they can still talk smack about them. Sorry Bama fans, but after being in AL for 4 1/2 years now, there aren't many that I've met who aren't like that.

Eric is a huge Auburn fan, and as you know I love dem dawgs, BUT we watch ALOT of football and if Auburn is better than us I'll say it and vice versa... as bad as I absolutely HATE FL, if they play better than us, I'll say it even if thru clenched teeth. Have I met a Bama fan that has said Auburn played a better game or Auburn is a better team? NEVER even when they are... But I have met Auburn fans who've stated that in past games Bama was a better team at times...

just an observation from me :)

And even tho I'm an UGA fan... for all you Roll Tiders... FEAR THE THUMB!!!! oh yeah... try not to get sacked 11 times this year

LOVE YOU ALL :) IRON BOWL SATURDAY>>> TOMORROW!!!!!

Well, let me burst your poor little Bama-hatin' bubble!

Auburn wins tomorrow by 10 points. They are better than us this year.

That was not a fun moment just now.

ROLL TIDE ROLL

The LSU game only convinced me that we still know how to lose a game. I came into this season thinking we'd be 4-5 loss team. So, I'm not disapppointed in terms of expectations at the outset of this season. I knew that we'd lost our best experienced players, and that this year would be a youth movement.

What I didn't expect is what has chilled me on Shula. I didn't expect Alabama to lead the conference in trips into the red zone. I didn't expect Alabama to so miserably fail to convert on those trips. I didn't expect Ken Darby to be as unproductive as he's been; I didn't expect Jimmy Johns to be the bolt of lightning that he's become, but who sits on the bench watching Darby either fold at the line of scrimmage or slip and fall. I didn't expect us to run the same plays against UT at their one yard line going into halftime that they turned around and ran from their own 10 after we failed to score. I didn't expect us to miss 4 field goal attempts against a very good Arkansas team, any one of which, if made, would've won the game. All of that, except poor Lee Tiffin, is on Mike Shula. He has the most ineffective game plan of any coach with similar talent in the country. I believe if Mike Richt had our guys on his UGA team this year, they'd actually have a better record than they do right now, except I'm not sure that would've gotten them a victory against Auburn, which they now have (the whole Auburn-Georgia dynamic is a thing unto itself; people in Opelika genuflect when you mention Georgia -- it's crazy).

I didn't even watch the LSU game. The score said all it needed to: we scored two touchdowns against a good team, but we got beat by 2 touchdowns. Both of those are completely unacceptable anymore. We lost every single game that we needed to win in order to be a presence in the SEC. That's a sad state of affairs to even need to say "be a presence in the SEC" when you are Alabama. And we lost to (gulp) Mississippi State. Missisippi State -- the laughingstock of the SEC. They make Kentucky look like USC. But they beat us. Now, that is abysmal. No matter what happens tomorrow, nothing is going to change. Shula will remain, and so will his inept offensive staff. Next year, and I mean this with all my soul, there's not a reason in the world, talent and experience wise, why Alabama shouldn't be the runaway favorite for the SEC West. But, we won't be. And, we won't win it, especially if Shula remains. Enough is enough.

As for Lee Corso, I'll give you the short version. My wife called him after the end of the Alabama-Tennessee game last year to rag him for picking UT (as you'll recall, we won 9-6). She actually got through to his voicemail at ESPN, believe it or not. She left him a message, and he returned the call about 2 weeks or so later. We were sitting at the supper table and the phone rang, I reached over and looked at the caller ID. It had the name of a company with an Orlando area code. I answered, and he said, "This is Lee Corso, is Lesley Shelton there?" I just laughed and said, "Sure, coach, here she is." I handed the phone to my wife and kept eating. It was him. They've exchanged calls on several occasions since. This time, he called her for her "input" on the Iron Bowl. Go figure.

I have a Green Tea vs Hawaian Punch bet with my supervisor(Reggie Ware-Auburn) that Alabama wins by 17 in the Iron Bowl...rival games you can throw out the records  ...Alabama will score a defensive TD and a punt/kickoff TD in additon to two offensive TD and a field goal while Auburn will only get two TDs...31-14 Bama

I thought Alabama might win even though I don't particularly pull for them. 8)
