We are hoping to cross this bridge in the near future. We are about to begin a building program. We are in process of applying for permits. etc. Some of us aer hoping to do a name change at the new building location.

I now even have written reason to change name

For several years now I have been wanting to sponsor one of the best known Media Minister Gurus in for a one day media conference. Tim Eason has written books and has spoken at many of the conferences in the country. He has a website that I share often Church Media Net. His newsletter has something like 15000 on the list. CMN message board has over 5000 members with about 2000 pro memberships.

Last fall he was looking for Host churches to sponsor his conference. I submitted our church and location . He does some serious advertising and promoting . This is part of what I received..

I think it's a possibility. I haven't been in that area before. I do have one concern (and PLEASE don't take this personally). The name of your church might be a deterrent on attendance. You know how finicky Baptists and Methodists are . he is Baptist.. LOL

When I replied he was relieved that he had not chased me away. LOL But I told him that it did not surprise me that church name could be an issue. I told him I would like to hear some more of his thoughts on this (church name) issue.

he replied with this
[i]I'll send you some more thoughts soon, but if it makes you feel any better, studies have shown that the word "Baptist" is at the top of the list for scaring people off. Lots of Baptist churches have changed their name to "Community". I go to Mesilla Park Community Church, which is a Southern Baptist church. They don't hide their doctrine at all -- it's just a marketing thing. Apparently the word "Baptist" has too many negative connotations thanks to TV and movies. I guess we have to do whatever it takes to reach people. [/i

Interesting Reaching People Marketing what a novel concept.

Not just because we always did it that way..

There's an old gospel bluegrass song about a church board who couldn't agree on a name for their church, so it was called.......

I've heard that song many times and always think of the contradictions it contains, based on how we operate here. But, then again, it seems more like what Heaven will be than we want to admit.

The song I was talking about was by a couple of guys named Don & earl. Very popular in their days. I doubt anybody on here remembers them though.
