What seems to be clear is that less and less $ are coming to GH. I am sure the state of the economy is somewhat to blame, but I think there is a general sentiment to abandon GH and just support the local churches. As someone who is looking back in, I do not know the "books" and don't know the seriousness of the situation. Perhaps we should ask questions about what role GH plays in the future of COGOP. Does the church need GH or a state/regional office? Each local church could be independent. Could it function? Where would the churches get their pastors? Each church would own their own property. There would be no more assemblys or state/regional conventions. No mission board. The GH buildings could be sold. No GH to represent the local churches to the public.
I think these are things the leadership, and the members need to consider. Are you willing to eliminate these things we have been accustomed to for over 100 years? How would these changes affect you as a pastor, minister, or member? Why should we keep doing these things if they are just traditional? Benefits vs costs......Is GH worth what it costs each local church to sustain it? These are serious questions that apparently are facing COGOP leadership. I think it would be good if the members are made aware of the situation and given an opportunity to think about the situation at hand. They just might reconsider their support to GH. It would be a sad day in my opinion to see the GH building sold and GH moved to TC........
