We do play Santa, but we don't make it the biggest deal, generally just one or two gifts, the rest is from us. We don't do the Easter Bunny, and weren't sure what we were going to do about the tooth fairy, but by the time our oldest actually started loosing a tooth or two (so far it's only been a couple, and he's 8!) we hadn't mentioned it and he had been told at school there was no such thing.
With Santa, when Daniel started questioning this year, we just told him straight out he was right, we gave him the gifts, and it was just a game we play at Christmas. Then we explained the real Saint Nicholas, and how it came a part of Christmas.
Since this wasn't the focus of Christmas ever in our house, it really wasn't a big deal.
