As Dr. Ron said; no dog in this fight......

I remember some of the names from my cogop days. Recently met Billy Wilson here in L.A. at the Azusa Street Centennial. He would be my choice. He is young enough yet I would think experienced. Has worked with so many different groups and can work across denominational lines. Of course Perry Gillium has also...but the age factor would sway me.

dog fight or rooster fight? i dunno.

what I do know is that I am note very sure of what difference it makes at the local church level; especialy in day to day ministering.

I am concerned (no, not THAT concerned) enough to be in fervent prayer for our organization about it. And I have a couple choices I would personally like to see in that position. honestly though, I don't really have a "spiritual-leading" one way or another otherwise.

I would like to say that (I think I may have posted this in other threads as well) I do believe that the person should be a spiritual leader first. having administrative abilities is nice, but I would like to see that position as a spiritual leader primarily.

I don't know Rambo, I heard a man speak a month or two ago on the gifts of administration and he really opened some things up for me. First of all, alot depends on what you mean by a "Spiritual Leader" verses "administrative abilities", and what we see the role of GO as being.

A great deal of pastoral duties are more administrative than we sometimes like to admit, and the old time attitude that as long as we are spiritual enough, the administrative things will take care of themselves just doesn't wash either.

Do we see the role of GO as a spiritual leader we are following? For that matter do we look to the organization as a whole for spiritual leadership, or do we seek that more locally, and look to the organization more for administrative purposes?

That's not saying that a person doesn't need at least a touch of both, but which is really the most important for that role, really depends on what that role is supposed to be.

Pastor Coalter is awesome but we're not going to give him up.

honestly I don't know. I haven't been here long enough. WHat I do know is that I personaly (again, just my opinion) would prefer for someone to be i the position that is called and, not just becuase they could run things like a business (remember Perot). I don't think we need to be run like a business. we are a church. :)

you know it seems to me that they were having a similar discussion at Jesse's house in the OT when the Lord spoke to Samuel and said that there was one more son to look at......well you know the rest of the story....

I am not saying we don't want the one God called to the position, I just think sometimes our ideas of what are needed are focused on the wrong things. I don't know that the man needs to be a dynamic preacher, I'll probably only hear him preach once every 2 years or so, I don't know that he needs to have a ministry of laying hands on the sick and seeing them recover, he'll probably be too busy to visit the hospitals!

We need the one who can do the job set forth for him as an overseer, and that frankly is much more administrative than we sometimes like to think about.

I am Curious... what do you see as the GO job description ? What do you expect from him ? I am serious, this is not just a comeback.

Somehow I missed this too. Didn't get to vote, but since I don't get to vote anyway, I guess it doesn't really matter. None of these men really stand out to me as being "the one." I have nothing against any of them, though, and I'm sure any one of them would give it their best.

feeling the same kind of way, so for me prayer and some fasting is happening in that regard.

I really don't know, but as I said I heard a pastor here in KY speak on this type of thing not too long ago, and it really is something that we do need to consider. He was speaking to pastors, and his first question was asking how much of what we do as pastors is even close to what we imagined ourselves doing before we stepped into the role?

Most of us would see administrative gifts as a secondary thing, but in fact that is probably where we spend most of our energy. The old attitude has always been if theirs a problem, preach it out, have a revival and shout it out, or move on somewhere else, we need leaders, not just good preachers and those that we see the signs of "spirituality" We need those that will lead people, not just drum up a following, ones that will plan ahead and cast a real vision for the church, and put it in play, not just a good word, and pray it will all work out. God has gifted the right person to do this, but sometimes we can get sidetracked by the excitement, or swayed by good preaching to assume that makes a good leader, but it doesn't neccesarily.

I don't know these men, I know what I've heard, and have met only one of them personally and that was very brief.

Didn't work that way in David's case.

I was just thinking the same thing. That's not to say that it can't work this way, though.

I was thinking about a few scriptures:

Galatians 1:5, Paul relates that God had chosen him to be an apostle before his birth
Jeremiah 1:5, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you (set apart); I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

Is it possible that even before the appointment, that there is a real genuine calling on some ones life to fill each and every office that God has pre-ordained necessary for the end time harvest? Surely their must be someone that God has already anointed. The appointment is only formality. (IMHO)
