I know that God is in control,but until the typical black man takes his responsiblity and starts to be the husband and father that he is supposed to be,I do not believe that the black race will ever be what it should be.I live in a small delta town and it is a shame the way most of the black men live with the women while they continue to get their welfare check and food stamps.I know the women also need to change their ways,but I have heard the black women talk and say the men expect them to take care of the household while they take their wages and do what they want to do and never give a thought to the women and children.

I have never been exposed to very many black men that seem to show a lot of pride in anything.I know they are out there but I haven't seen them.

Nope,I find no excuse for any able bodied man,black,white or purple or any other color,to live off a woman while he makes good wages and doesn't help with the children or household expenses.You would have to live here to know what I am talking about.

Wowie Zowie. You are making sweeping generalizations about an entire group of people based upon your admitted limited experience with them. You are painting with broad strokes to stereotype an entire segment of humanity. Reading this, I am seeing a picture. I'm just not certain it's one you'd want to make public.

No, I don't know you enough to think you are prejudiced. What I wanted to get across was the idea that our word choices and the conclusions we draw from our own limited experiences can lead us to stereotype and that can be interpreted in a bad light.

As far as "vulgar music" goes, I would say yes, I do enjoy listening to some music that could be described by some as "vulgar". Since we are speaking of African American men, I am assuming you mean they were listening to hip hop loudly. I enjoy some hip hop myself, but like all genres of music it sometimes comes in awful forms.

A man should take care of his family. My father abandoned us when I was two and never spoke to us again. I have much experience with deadbeat fathers.

And though I'm sure the delta is nice, from my experience Mississippi's full of uneducated rednecks, so I'll have to pass. Only joking! I've met some really cool people from the state, and I've met some idiots, but I'm not just going to rely on that to judge a whole state.

I am sorry to have come off harsh. I should have used different words to express my concern. We are all fallible, I more so than others.

I live in a small midwest town of 17,000 with an indiginous black population of about 1% (we do have a university and a medical school that generates a population of maybe several hundred black students). As a jail chaplin and as our fellowship's Celebrate Recovery Pastor I see predominately whites and for many of them the very same description you're giving applies--and that's just to the males who claim Christianity to some extent or other (which is a very small percentage of the local males who fit your description to some degree). I have to say that it looks to me like more of a socio-economic problem than a cultural-racial issue.
