The first and chief article is this: Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, died for our sins and was raised again for our justification (Romans 3:24-25). He alone is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29), and God has laid on Him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:6). All have sinned and are justified freely, without their own works and merits, by His grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, in His blood (Romans 3:23-25). This is necessary to believe. This cannot be otherwise acquired or grasped by any work, law or merit. Therefore, it is clear and certain that this faith alone justifies us ... Nothing of this article can be yielded or surrendered, even though heaven and earth and everything else falls (Mark 13:31)
Therefore, it is clear and certain that this faith alone justifies us

Grace is not something that is 'applied' as I see it. It is something God made available to all of humanity through the redemptive work of Jesus. Luther equated justification with salvation which is a misunderstanding of how Paul used the word 'justification'. In fact, you used it in the same way Martin Luther used it, equating it with salvation. It is not equated to salvation. Having said that, here is part of the quote you presented. Therefore, it is clear and certain that this faith alone justifies us
See that phrase 'faith alone justifies us'? He was citing 'sola fide' as the cause of ones 'justification' or as he saw it, 'salvation'.
Does that answer your question?

Thanks for pointing that out Beckrl. I was discussing new creation with my pastor this afternoon including the theme of a cosmic temple. God, I believe, was building a cosmic temple in Genesis. In that culture, temples were the place where the gods rested. This, I think explains the Sabbath which has always been quite a mystery to me. Why did God need to rest? But I think it was always about God having a dwelling place with mankind. There was a debate among the Jews whether God actually continued to 'work' after the Sabbath rest of Genesis. Jesus said, "My father works until now and so do I." His statement from the cross that "It is finished." is quite telling. He then 'rested' in the tomb on the Sabbath.
The new creation theme is very evident in John as the verses you cited indicate. In Christ, we continue the work of the Father in building the temple. You sir, have just helped me connect some really important dots and I thank you for it!
Bless you brother.
