The founding pastor of Keith St. was a brilliant and dedicated man and lovely and talented wife named John and Reba Silvers!!!!! I attended there for a time.......on ocassion.

You got that right, Ron. Overseering (that's not a real word, I am certain) is a different skill set and requires a different mindset. I am wearing both hats now, and have to try to keep the two functions somewhat compartmentalized.

Maybe. Maybe not. But it would make sense to choose a seasoned leader with some kind of track record, would it not? A church full of white-haired retired pastors and overseers could chew a rookie up and eat him for lunch.

It makes sense from a worldly perspective but not from a Godly one. God always chose the least likely. The disciples drew straws basically to pick someone to replace Judas. What if we picked Pastors & Overseers by drawing straws? I'm all for it!

Are you of the impression that they drew straws from a random, unspecified pool of applicants, or do you think the straws represented a small pool of already vetted inner circle disciples?

Sorry dajudge, I hate it because I have experience in so many areas....just one of those things that happens in some people's lives...

Honestly, I have been allowed by the Lord to have some wonderful experiences.

On the subject of pastors making good overseers, it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the man more than his background. And a lot of it depends on the needs of the particular state to which he is assigned. I did better in some states because of my expertise in certain areas. I even surprised myself on many ocassions. I didn't really think an evangelist would make a good overseer. I didn't ask for it and accepted it only because I was taught to obey them that have the rule over us in the Lord. I am glad for the experience.....I am also sad that I was unable to motivate many things that I saw as important to church growth.

I have seen some good men go down in flames because they were taken out of their calling as pastors and put into those positions. Contrary to what some think, the overseer is NOT the pastor of pastors. That is way town on the list of priorities.

So, having said all that.....I left the work on my own volition. I felt I was no longer effective in that position......especially in light of the direction the church was taking at the time. I was correct in my decision to leave.
