If the South would have won we would have been a socialist Nation long ago. Come to think of it, Obama is about as southern as you can get.Hmm..

I really don't know how to take your statement. I will say that from the way that it is comming over to me, then it is either one of the most innocent statements that I have heard in a long time.

Is Obama southern just because he is black? I don't thik so and as far as I know nothing about him is from the south. His daddy is from Africa, and from wwhat I know his mother's peaople lived in Hawaii. And he lived in Chicago. Now were do you get southern from that.

This makes me think that you and some others think any thing black has to be southern. Now we do have a lot of people in the south and I have many friends that are black.

The black people have been emancipated some 150 years or so and we still have a LARGE number living here is the south, that should tell you something about the south. A few idoits on either side of the Mason Dixion Line should not defind that area. To do so would make many of us wonder if that person hasn't being drinking too much one sided kool-aid.

It's my intention too. I've instructed my wife to fill me in that way on the census when she fills it out.

I thought this was a joke until I read this article:
The Southern Legal Resource Center is calling on self-proclaimed "Confederates" to declare their heritage when they are counted in the 2010 Census.
The organization is urging Southerners to declare their “heritage and culture” by classifying themselves as “Confederate Southern Americans” on the line on the form, question No. 9, that asks for race. Check “other” and write “Confed Southern Am” on the line beside it, the group says on its Facebook page and on two YouTube videos.

“A significant number of Southerners identifying themselves as Confederate Southern Americans on the Census form could finally spell the beginning of the end for the discrimination that has been running rampant, especially for the last 20 years or so, against all things Confederate, and for that matter against Southern heritage and identity in general,” SLRC executive director Roger McCredie said in a written statement.

He said this campaign could result in protections for “Confederate Southern Americans” much like those for other groups.

“In this age of honoring diversity, Southern/Confederate people are the last group in America that can be maligned, ridiculed and defamed with impunity,” said SLRC Board Chairman Neill H. Payne. “Using the Census to unite the Southern/Confederate community can be a significant first step to our obtaining rights and recognition that all American ethnic groups are entitled to.”

In a video posted on YouTube.com, the group’s attorney, Kirk David Lyons, said he frequently hears from people who “complain of being discriminated against, harassed, humiliated, terminated from employment, their children suspended from school simply because they are proud of their Southern heritage.”

Lyons noted that there had been several court cases brought against those who displayed Confederate symbols or demonstrated their regional pride and the SLRC's nationwide effort could “give people of Southern ancestry a voice and legal protections.”

They seem to be serious about this, bless their hearts.
I'm proud to be a southerner but to believe that writing in some imaginary racial group on the census is going to effect some sort of policy change is delusional. If it makes you feel better, have at it, but don't be offended if people think you're a little loopy. (I see your "wink", Poimen. This is not directed at you but at the folks who seriously are going to write in Confederate Southern American.)

What about insurrection?

Postby dolfan » March 29th, 2010, 9:57 am

We're getting ready to celebrate the Resurrection. What about the Insurrection? The "until then". We all know (and many probably still sing) the hymn "We Shall See The King". "The kingdoms of this world shall soon before Him fall," it says. And, certainly, all things will be placed under His feet.

When I read the NT accounts of the early church's activities, I don't see a milktoast church content to go along and get along. I also don't see one that tries to correct the temporal wrongs being done by those in power. What I see is an occupying force ("Occupy, till I come...") supplanting the civil power, not correcting it and not replacing it. But, being other-than-it.

What is that government of which I will be a part as I look at His Resurrection this next Sunday? Co-option is a failure. Being "salt and light" does not mean "make the world around us better at its own failures". I think maybe we still have to make a choice between kingdoms. Maybe we still have to seriously do what Jesus said: to forsake all to follow Him. I think that has ramifications for each of us that maybe none of us (me in particular) are willing to admit.

I dunno. Just some rambling thoughts, obviously. What I want to do and be, though, is total obedience. And, I shake my head and laugh at my ownself when I type that because I know me. But, it is true. Anyway.....
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

AHEM...

Hawaii is, in fact, the southernmost state in the United States. South Point, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is farther south than Key West Florida. We in Hawaii look at some folks who live in the north end of some states as downright yankees.

If Obama was born in Hawaii, therefore, he is more southern than the most confederate-flag-waving, rebel-yelling good old boy on this forum.

I think that I was talking apples and you and your buddy from Ohio are talking lemons.

Last time I checked the Confederate South range from Texas back to Alantic Ocean and south of the Mason Dixion line.

As much as some may like to be, being closer the equater doesn't make one Confererate Southern.

I did my time in the US Army and am proud of my service to our country. I am also proud of my Southern Heritage.

I don't buy all the junk that is now being told now about happings that doesn't go along with history when I was a kid. And I sure want buy into Obama being anything that he is not. My hope is that in three years that he will be an expresident. I will put one vote down to fire him hoping that this country is strong enough to survrive him and all his clones. I would feel this way eeven if he was from Alabama or Ga..

Yes. The North invaded and conquered a Confederacy of Sovereign states. It even installed it's own government officials and officers, by force, in these states ... giving the appearance that the leaders of the states themselves instituted the new constitutions, re admittance to the Union, and cooperation with "reconstruction" efforts of the federalists.

Okay, I'll buy that. I agree for the most part indeed BUT we have elections all the time, local, state, and federal and for the most part "the South" has been more than contempt to remain occupied.

The States formed the Confederacy because Lincoln was elected. Now the electoral process had worked for nearly 100 years beforehand and the count was far more in favor of Lincoln than the Southern Democrat candidate Breckenridge. In fact TN, Virginia, and Kentucky (not a southern state per se) didn't even vote for the same candidate as the rest of the south. These 3 states carried a third of the electoral prowess as did the remaining 9 states.

It seems that the South would have been better off to have run a better candidate than Breckenridge. Maybe another man could have defeated Lincoln or even made the vote much closer. Heck Breckenridge didn't even carry his own state of Kentucky (reminds me of Al Gore).

It's odd that Jefferson Davis rose to be president of the Confederacy when he barely registered as a potential presidential candidate or nominee with the northern democratic party. Even so that party's candidate only carried Missouri. This is so interesting! Davis argued against succession.

Again I am with you for the most part BUT there are those pesky elections that we have and we fail to use for our good. I just think that stirring up talk of succession now ONLY fuels the real hijackers of our society, the Liberal left with Obama and Pelosi at the head. Talk of succession is certainly not new but will not help us. we need to focus on excellent, conservative candidates for all seats local, state, and federal.
I have piped unto you, and ye have not danced!

Just researched my namesake lineage and this guy jumped out..

Obadiah A. #175 born. about 1838, Mississippi, died. Dec 25 1864, Giles Co., TN. Obadiah who was a private in Co. B., 28th Mississippi Cavalry, CSA who is buried in Chestnut Grove Cemetery on top of Anthony Hill, Giles Co., TN. This is the same CSA unit in which his brother Theodore served - and survived, but his horse died on Dec. 25, 1864.

It is thought that Obadiah was killed, along with 42 other Confederate soldiers in the battle on Anthony Hill on Christmas day in 1864. Anthony Hill is about four miles south of Pulaski.
