I, (the WCS) and Jerry Goins, along with the Soulsearchers had the dubious honor of beginning the afterglows. We actually started it as a way to make enough money to afford to come to the assembly and sell records so we could book revivals....this was before the Evangelism dept was instituted.
We actually started in Chatt. in the upstairs room. We used it to record the (as far as I know) the only album ever recorded live at the GA.!
Then when we moved into the new tabernacle back in Cleveland, we booked the old auditorium at Bradly HS. WE charged 1 dollar for admission to help pay for the building and help us with expenses. I think the first year, we may have made 200.00 total!
But that was the beginning of the afterglow....interestingly....we were told we could not charge admission anymore and the church paid the rent on the building.....then THEY took over who could perform.....then it the only performers became the teen music winners.....and on it goes....
We evangelists were given a booth at the tab to meet people and book revivals............and sell a few records....but could not perform any more.
Then it all died!
Oh well....progress is progress!
