I was told by the man in charge of ushers, that there were 1300 seats on the floor and including that number with the seats in the arena it was set up to seat 8500.

Since we are taking a trip back, can I quickly share one of my favorite old tabernacle stories? I was with my friend Ronnie who was a nut and we peeked in door 14 to see what was going on. Our friend Jon was standing in the aisle in front of the door and Ronnie went over and pinched him on the butt. The guy turned around and it wasn't Jon. Flabbergasted, Ronnie said "I'm sorry - I thought you were another guy!"

The thing only seats 17,000 in a concert setting. I know I live here. We had Bill Gaither and the Reunion thing....and it was set up for 12,000 and didn't completely fill up.

Stop being so touchy! If you were not worried about the whole "crowd being small " issue, go back to registration. That will work and be accurate.

I don't care if you had two or 25,000 and I hope it was the latter. But if there is going to be an estimate, at least be consistant.

I have family who go to every session. Their best guess was max 7000. Again. I don't really care.

Okay while we are discussing Attendence.

Largest Crowd in 15 years..
Why..
You will have about 8-10 thousand more members 5 hours closer than the past 15 years. Between NC, SC & VA members being 5 hours closer, the attendence will be up.

Why.
It will be cheaper. I just checked the Host Sheraton Hotel in NC normal room cost is about $129 Normal room cost for the Marriott Hotel in Nashville is $209. Oh that $129 includes High Speed Internet and parking. The negotiated convention price will be less. Nashville price was $126..for the $209 room.plus 15 plus 25.

At the coliseum the exhibit hall fees arel less I checked. Nasvhille internet access for an exhibiter was about $150 per day. Greensboro the fee $89 per day or $185 per Event.

Also When people exit the coliseum , they have to walk past the exhibit hall to get to the parkng lot.

Greensboro is serviced by 3 major airports within about a 1 hour ride also. PIT, RDU anc CLT I just checked Airfare from SEA Seattle, Wa to RDU, Raleigh for a monday in october arrival (Just grabbed a date 2 monts out) and Leave the following sunday $176 Same flight and date from SEA to BNA Nashville is $229

Dont know what it will be like in 2 years but chck the numbers now.

Seating capacity is approximately 20,000 for concerts, 19,395 for basketball and 17,113 for Nashville Predators games.

The company I work for does electrical work for the Sommet Group, those that sponsor the arena. This is from their site.

With the upper bowl closed off we must conclude that their were not 20,000 but it is more than possible that their was more than 10,000.

What I've gleaned from this thread is that during the 2008 IA there was likely a seated attendance at any given service of 7,000 - 8,500, but possibly an additional 1,000 - 1,500 children, teens, staff, mall rats, pool pals, golfers , etc... I would say that a total attendance in the 10,000 range would be a fair assessment.

I suppose only a few will ever know the complete details concerning the decision to move the Assembly from Cleveland, but if my memory serves me correctly God visited in more than one business meeting during those days and confirmed a move as one that seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to the church.

Personally, I can see pros and cons on both sides of the Assembly location issue, but the ultimate decision to move seems to have been directed by the Lord.

PA - I'd say you are close - but still wouldn't doubt this is on the
low side for total attendance if you count all those that only
attended parts of the assembly. I personally know of 8 that drove
down for just the Tuesday business & p.m. service, 3 for Tuesday-
Thursday, 3 for Thursday-Saturday a.m., and 2 for just Saturday
evening & I know of several more I talked to that had indicated
they only made it in for a segment of the assembly but I don't
remember what specific days they said they attended. I know
of several that also said they were leaving early (Friday evening
or Saturday) so they could make it back for their Sunday
services as well.

SEA to PTI is $296
SEA to CLT is $283
