Globalization impact?

Postby Pastor Gary » October 29th, 2007, 2:04 am

The discussion this week in my school assignments is centered around globalization in all its forms. Let me ask a narrow question or two on the subject.

(1) Using COGOP as an example, what effect will the globalization of the church have in the near future? Now that a single nation in Africa has way more COGOP members that the entire U.S. membership... now that we have mega-churches in the Ukraine... now that we have far more Spanish-speaking members than English-speaking... how do (or how will) those things impact future leadership changes, doctrinal debates, etc.?

(2) The U.S. dollar is no longer the world's primary monetary standard. How does that impact funds flowing into and being disbursed out of a small town in Tennessee, USA? Could a case be made for decentralized accounting and funds distribution?

(3) How long before COGOP (and xCOGx groups) would accept a non-American at the helm? A non-English speaker? While we're in political season with Obama's prominence, a non-Caucasian?

you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Answering a question with a question.. What do you think personally will be the real vs desired impact of this?

A few Thoughts

If the cogop or any religious organization is to have a global impact, then without question they will/must embrace the input of those from outside the boundries of the U.S.

One impact I see ( for the good) is that organizations will have to begin to focus more clearly on biblical/doctrinal issues rather than geographical or standard traditional issues. When one thinks of the energy and time spent on questions pertaining to issus of non global/biblical/doctronal influence. One could shutter.

With countries looking to other nations than the US and becoming a part of the economic bloc they have earned the right ( should have always had it ) to be a voice in the decission making process of the church.

There are only a few nations left, mostly in the Asian area that feel any sense of loyality to the US. Most are not sactisfied with being an American Clone Church.

South Korea since the 1950 has become the largest missionary sending nation except for the US.

Recently when I was in Uganda, I had a pastor tell me point blank to my face..." we have many white men from america coming here. They come and go leaving us with nothing.....they give us nothing spiritually.

Look recently at the impact that the African Angalin Church had on the American Episcable Church. It was their voice and their protest and their threat of leaving the movement that caused the American Eph. Movement to back up on the appointing of Gay's to upper church government.

Of course their is more to play out her.. But their impact was nonetheless felt and their voice heard.

1. The church will be forced to view all issues on a cross cultural basis
2. The church will be forced to view mainly doctrinal issus facing the global church and not geographical/traditional only. This includes traditions from other countries as well.
3. The church will be forced to change it leadership structures to include those from other nations. Not as tokens but in true leadership policy making positions.
4. And eventually the decentralization will become necessary.

The COGOP of India Inc. Basically set up as a national recognized inity but joined as part of the Larger Overall body. Example.....also controling their own funds and allocations.

It must be the common goal, vision, and practice of the word of God that holds us together as a organization. Not purse strings.

Example. In Nigeria there is a large movement there called the Redeemed Christian Church of God. It is a Nigerian Denomination. It now has churches in countries all around the world.

In the Philippines there is a group called Jesus Is Lord.. The movement is as the one mentioned above.

Change is in the air. I think cogop has a tremendous opportunity because of its tradition of being a diverse group.
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting
and preserving yourself.
