Another electrical question

Postby Susie Hamilton » November 9th, 2007, 7:40 am

The bulb in my oven blew out and I am replacing it. But the metal base would not come out with the bulb. If I pull the circuit breaker for the oven will it be safe to remove the metal base with pliers? Thanks
To God be the Glory.

Funny. I don't play with electricity unless I am sure.

I don't blame you. Scooter scares me everytime he does something in the house with electricity. Come to think of it...scooter scares a lot of folk.

The simple answer is yes. Pulling the fuse or throwing the circuit breaker to the off position cuts the electricity to the circuit and it is safe. Just be sure that it's the right fuse or circuit breaker.

If you don't hear from me just chalk it to pulling the wrong breaker.

Turn your stove top on, then flip the breakers off until you get the one that kills the stove. Make sure, since it is a 220 volt outlet powering the thing, that you flip both breakers for the oven; it may be in your home that you have 2 110 volt breakers not bridged together so that if you flip one, you don't necessarily flip the other. Chances are that they are bridged by a little plastic extension across both breakers, but if not, make sure you kill both of the individual 110 breakers to your unit. If you're still not certain just unplug the stove (if it isn't hard-wired into the wall).

I have a built in oven that has a clock. I have 2 breakers for it so when I pull them the clock should go off, right?

If the light is turned off it still wont shock you. But if the light comes on when you open the door then you better turn both breakers off. 8)

As a back up... where do you want your ashes scattered?

The breaker should be a 50 amp.
Use a potato to get the base of the lamp out. Pliers can damage the socket. Cut a tater in half, push it into the base of the lamp, and turn slowly. This should work nicely. It's also safe and non-conductive, well it's suppose to be.
