Motivated to growing deeper in a relationship with God

Postby Joey » November 22nd, 2007, 6:55 am

I'm doing some soul searching here and I'd like your thoughts.
What is the motivator for you?
That thing/thought/whatever that will cause you to put aside your favorite magazine, TV show, meal or even hanging out with your friend for the sake of spiritual growth or service?

I hope I'm asking that question right without getting blasted.

These few scriptures are my sense of motivation. for me they not only tell me of my salvation, the price paid for it, and my standing wiht God through Christ. but also what my responsibility is to my generation.

2 Cr 2:18 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

2Cr 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

2Cr 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

2Cr 5:21 For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting
and preserving yourself.

Pain & need; the admission of the latter, the impetus of the former.
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

What draws me in is knowing I can experience the Presence of God in my quiet time with Him. I want to fellowship with the LORD and gain understanding about His will for my life. So I often ask the LORD about circumstances in my life and wait to hear what He speaks to me, and then I write those words down. His words are precious to me as well as the peace and joy I feel.. and the contentment of knowing that I have a right relationship with God. It is never boring to have a quiet time when I know that as I wait on the LORD's leading I'll either sing, read, pray, worship or listen, that it will always be fresh, always be different because He always has something good in store for those who seek Him.
..I press on to take hold of that
for which Christ took hold of me.

...as I try to grasp my thoughts on true motivation, its easier than I'm making it I'm sure,
...I'm moving back to what it is like with a small child & his/her parent... simple but genuine love, trusting for direction, faithful without knowing everything the parent knows,
...in a very comparible sense (as Jesus mentions in Luke 18:17) like the distance from God the Father to us His children.
It is so easy to over-think things in the kingdom of God, while at the same time spend a life-time of endless searching to understand His ways.
