Presidential Nominees and Current Jobs

I think that when people are trying to run for another office, they should be required to step down from the political position they currently occupy. There is no way they can do an adequate job representing the people who they have been elected to represent. For instance, in the current presidential race, the the following nominees have missed this percentage of votes:
McCain 55.9%
Biden 39.1%
Dodd 37.6%
Obama 37.6%
Brownback 30.5 %
Clinton 23.3%

Other than Sen. Tim Johnson, who suffered a brain hemorrhage last year, these nominees make up the top 6 in the senate. The next closest to them is Sen. Inouye with 9.7%.

Tancredo 29%
Paul 27.2%

If I missed work even at the lowest rate of these guys, over 2 out of 10 times, my bosses would say see ya later.

Also factor in that they receive mass amounts of money to help "Fund their campaigns" while in office.

The nature of running for president has changed drastically in the last 50 or so years. In the early days of the country, I would not expect it to have been much of a problem, but now it is ridiculous to think one can keep a Senate or House job and run for president at the same time.

I think the main reason they don't WANT to step down is the loss of power if they lose.
The Bible calls children a blessing and debt a curse, but in our culture we apply for curses and reject blessings.

I voted "no" for 2 reasons.

First, there is no constitutional requirement that they do so.

Second, it's really up to their constituents isn't it? If the voters from their state think they are doing a lousy job as their senator or governor because of their involvement in the presidential race, they can always voice their opinion at the ballot box next time around.

While I agree with dajudge in his rightfull assessment of the legalalities of this issue.........and the implications of the voter consideration, I believe they should have the strength of character to say..." I can't serve two masters "....but then strength of character is not a typical attribute of many elected officials....

I would come nearer voting for someone like Fred, who did so exactly that. He have up his Senate seat (which he could have held for ever in Tenn.) because he said no person should be a career politician. He served two terms and then stepped down.......he even gave up his acting gig

But since I have NO respect for Hilary, Barac, or Edwards anyway, I don't expect them to do the right thing.....it would be a first for either of them.....and I disagree with those Republicans who are doing that same thing.

God help us all...................
