This game is another example of why there should not be a pre-season or any poll until after the 1st weekend of October.

Ole Miss was overrated!

Yes, as were the USC Trojans. After SC beat the Rebels last year, we went 6-1 including a nice Cotton Bowl victory. The Rebels are not down and out. I believe we will win some important games with this pressure of success off our backs.

I must admit that Ole Miss played terrible and I am anxious to see what they'll be ranked now...

however, I am still a HUGE ole miss fan and I will continue to root for my boys!

I do agree with you PA that they will have alot of pressure off of their backs now and will go back to their normal way of playing.

As was OK, Ohio St, etc. Ole Miss was ranked that high based on what they did last year in the Cotton Bowl. Someone has forgot to tell the AP and Coaches Polls that that was last year.

I was very disappointed in Snead after hearing all the hype about him. Not sure Ole Miss is ready for the LSU's or Alabama's of the SEC West just yet.

Teach, I'm glad to hear that, just as I am still a HUGE Mountaineer fan. Just glad we were not ranked 8th to start this season like we were last year.

Just remember South Carolina isn't bad. They played Georgia down to the wire at Athens on Georgia's first home game and many think they should have won that game. That's their only lost. It is difficult to go on the road and beat a good SEC team especially when you're ranked high, it's on a Thursday night, and the coach of the other team is a future College Hall of Famer. Ole Miss will be fine. One more loss...Alabama.

Snead's m.o. has been to be up and down. With several awful games, he still passed for over 2,000 yards last season. He will be fine.

In his defense, even with his record of sporadic "hot" spurts, he is only about 2 weeks removed from the swine flu and then burying his grandfather in TX who he was very close in relationship. The ESPN announcers mentioned the flu, but I don't recall them speaking of his family death. It likely wouldn't have altered the outcome of the game, but I'm certain his play through the first three games has been affected. The one glaring obstacle for Snead will be a weaker offensive line to work behind after the loss of All-American Michael Oher.

I'm a little bewildered after that game. Part of it I can identify, though: not being able to handle success. I know it because I've seen Bama do this time and time again. Be hyped a little bit, have a couple of wins that put some wind in their sails, and then not be prepared enough to win against a team that they ought to beat. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I disagree that this takes any pressure off them. I don't know that the pressure to win has ever been relieved by a loss. It makes fans feel a little less anxious after hyperexcitement and hopes mixed with doubts of finally, finally making it in the tip-top tier of teams in a season. But, if guys really do believe that it relieves the pressure, then they don't have what it takes to move up to the real championship caliber of play. Nobody takes consolation in a loss. Right now, I'm going to give OM the benefit of the doubt on that for two reasons. One: in SEC football, anyone can beat anyone on any given day and we see it every single season without fail; two: Ole Miss lost 4 games last year, and they made it to the Cotton Bowl and thumped a highly lauded Texas Tech team. If these players feel a relief from expectations, then they will not get beyond where they finished last year, which was really good but not "great". I think they want to be great. I think they want to do what Florida did; get beat and still pick it up and go on to succeed.

As for the Bama at Ole Miss game, tickets are going for $200 a piece, before last night. I suspect they'll come down to earth a little. BUT, I'll tell you one thing --- anyone who think Ole Miss is just going to roll over against Alabama and that Bama will beat them soundly is wrong. I don't who'll win, of course, and as 2 weeks from now rolls around we'll have to see how both teams are playing before making a prediction. We've still got Arkansas to beat, and the forecast is for storms tomorrow. I'm glad, because Arkansas can score. I'm impressed with our defense, but I also know that Virignia Tech is not lighting it up against anybody, really, so I don't judge how good our defense is before playing at least one decent SEC school. Ole Miss ran into one last night. We will encounter our first of the season on Saturday in T-town. And, no slight on VT here either, but defensively they're not playing this season to the caliber of last season statistically. Not close. And, offensively, Bama has not been the dominant force-their-will-upon-you team that they were last year -- so far. I think the Ark. game is a possible trap game, but if the weather predictions hold up, I think it helps us to force them to run the ball maybe 10 more times than they otherwise might. The slower that game is, I believe the better it is for Alabama. Good thing we like 'em slow with lots of defense in the SEC.
