Casino next week --- annual trip

Next week, I take my now annual 2-day, 2-night trip to the outskirts of the glorious town (tongue in cheek, there) of Philadelphia, Mississippi to the Silver Star Casino and Hotel for the annual trade show put on by the grocery wholesaler we buy from. Laugh, but it is a lot of work. My wife and I are going alone for the 2nd year in a row; my brother and I went the first two years. It is an intense but informative day and a half of booking advance orders of all the stuff you see on the shelves in convenience stores. I wish they'd do it somewhere else, though. Man, I hate casinos with a purple passion. And, this one is the worst, except for the one I entered in Shreveport, Louisiana when Alabama played Iowa State in the Independence Bowl there.

The upside is there quite a few free goodies and new items. T-shirts, toys, cool stuff. Lots and lots of samples. And, we always manage to wrangle with the show reps to get a few extras (like, one year we got the stand up M&M guy they were using at the show, and they even took it to our car; I can't remember what we got last year but it was something they shipped later).

The second year we went was the week of the tornado touching down near our home and killing a couple of folks and taking out a whole bunch of houses on a long swath. It was also the year that they had to actually place security guards by the display tables at night because hotel employees were caught stealing Hannah Montana candy from displays. Crazy.
