democracy

Postby drummy » May 17th, 2010, 9:35 pm

Whats the difference between an indirect democracy and a republic? what confuses me is that when we elect senators to vote for us, we call it a democracy, but when romans do it, we call it a republic. when is it used incorrectly or are they both the same thing?

The United States is a Republic. Period! The term Democracy is misused in this sense, as are many other terms. We select our representatives by democratic elections, thus the source of the confusion.

What confuses ME is that you're saying "we" as if you are American, but you registered your location as INDIA. I am also confused by some of the other kinds of boards associated with your email address. Hmmmmmmm

TW is very correct and for the record our founders set this govt. up where Senators were not elected by the people. Senators were to represent the state govts. That got changed and so to the demise of states rights.
