Consider this

Postby jnsbray » April 16th, 2004, 5:04 pm

I have yet to find scripture saying yes it is okay for me to have more than one husband/wife, and hold a membership in the church, and I need more than just the Good Samaritan (woman at the well scripture).
A lawyer has been spoken to on this matter ~ Off the record, and this would be legal grounds for a lawsuit, (if this D/R passes into the church) so maybe all of those that have been disfellowshipped for D/R should come forward and bring a lawsuit against the church.
It can be an ugly situation in all areas...

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Oh, it just gets funnier and funnier.

Tell that lawyer to call me -- off the record, of course -- at (808) 235-1044 and I'll tell him/her the side of the story you obviously DIDN'T tell... that there is NO ACTION BEING TAKEN THIS ASSEMBLY concerning changing the COGOP position on D&R. None. Nada.

Read the reports that were released. No mention of it.

Secondly -- what kind of action do you think a civil attorney might take against a church for having a doctrinal position that includes or excludes people based upon their doctrinal views??

File that suit. You'd be laughed out of court, and we can get attorneys for the Catholic Church and the LDS church to join in with Friends of the Court Briefs because they will not want a precedent set in which the government tells them who they may or may not have as members.

This is laughable. Bring it on.

It was a statement I made, in which I am still waiting for scripture saying yes, I can have more than one husband, and still be a member of CoGoP.
The lawsuit would be listed under discrimination. If this were to ever pass. Maybe not this GA. Whenever, If ever it passes, I have been discriminated against, so just how many others does this one word "DISCRIMINATION" effect?

SCRIPTURES PLEASE????

SIGH~~~~~~~~~~

You are REALLY, really hard to talk to, because you seem unable to comprehend something very simple:

If your claim of discrimination is correct, and COGOP is TRYING to correct that past and redress the alleged discrimination, what would be the case??

See, unlike you, we are starting to recognize and acknowledge that our position might have been wrong, or at least incorrectly applied. Unlike you, we are willing to look at trying to change it. IF it gets changed, all those who were, in your view, discriminated against would be eligible to come back, thereby correcting the 'problem.'

How can you take both positions???

How can you say COGOP is CORRECT in not accepting you for membership, but they are DISCRIMINATING to not accept you???

That is just not logical, because your two positions directly contradict one another!

Oh there are more contradictions.

First we are told:

jnsbray wrote:I am not angry at the fact of being disfellowshipped.

and then

jnsbray wrote:A lawyer has been spoken to on this matter ~ Off the record, and this would be legal grounds for a lawsuit, (if this D/R passes into the church) so maybe all of those that have been disfellowshipped for D/R should come forward and bring a lawsuit against the church.

How can one NOT be angry, but disgruntled enough to consult a lawyer?

A second contradiction:

jnsbray wrote:I am quite PLEASED in my journey with the LORD.

and

jnsbray wrote:I feel in my heart that I am saved

versus

jnsbray wrote:I know that in my heart that double marriage is wrong,

She refuses to go back or live by the ideas of her dear father,
yet others are taken to task for not doing so.

I do not think it possible for someone who isn't an idiot to hold such directly opposite viewpoints.

I suspect some kind of dishonesty in JNSBRAY. I do not believe her story. I do not believe she (if that is even true) has been honest about anything posted. I suspect a TCOGger trying to stir things up and failing with logic and reason.

You may suspect anything you wish, and frankly I don't care what you think...
I have been completely honest about everything I have written. My words may not have come out completely the way I had planned, and I have tried very hard to express my thoughts as completely as possible, so here it goes, one last try to get my point across.

I do not hold a grudge for being disfellowshipped, it is in the teachings of the church, and my own father called my pastor at the church my membership was held on my wedding day to let him know about my remarriage. I do not hold a grudge towards my father, pastor, nor CoGoP for disfellowshipping me...

I do however feel that each and everyone of you are in the wrong to try and change one of the teachings to fit worldly lifestyles, and that is where my rage lies... You cannot change the word of God, and that is exactly what you are trying your best to do.

All of the ministers that have passed on put their heart and soul into teaching and preaching the word of God... (In which I am proud to say that I knew several through my father and the ministry).

Gerald Creasy, I can only hope that you are no relation to D.D. Creasy in which has gone on to be with the Lord. He was a remarkable man in God... Yet he would never uphold this mess in which a select few are trying to create...

I am far from being a TCOGger trying to stir up trouble, I just would like to have scripture other than the "Good Samaritan" where it states in the Bible that I can have 2 husbands. Kenya, can you answer that for me? I mean aren't you and I in the same situation here?

I would like to have proof that what you all are doing is right, because I know it isn't right. You are trying to change things to fit worldly situations when in all truth, the world should change to fit God.

No one is perfect, yet the Bride of Christ should be... Look at the Blemishes that take away the Brides perfection... I may not be in the Bride, yet I do hold the utmost respect for her, and it is matters like this that place those Blemishes on her beauty...

I may not be in her beauty, but I sure wouldn't want to answer for her scars either...

I am still waiting for SCRIPTURE!!!

Think of me what you will, I could care less...

Hello, I am new here and have been browsing for a while and felt the desire to post. First off let me say up front that I'm not trying to offend anyone or stir up an argument. I only want to give an objective opinion of what I've seen on this board and COGOP's forum as well, which happens to be where I found a link to this one. I am a member of COGOP and served as the youth pastor and christian education director in one of our larger churches in TN. for six years before God led me a different direction. (Actually YP for 6 and CE for almost 2).

On the issue of D and R and the current problems in the COGOP I am very disappointed in the way things have gone. I have personally disagreed with the churches teachings on divorce for many years as I believe that there are absolutely scriptural exceptions that allow people in specific circumstances to remarry after a divorce. However, I question the motivations behind the change that is being pushed. Is this happening because God has suddenly enlightened our leaders or is it a response to our changing culture which has dramatically changed the make-up of our churches? Many of the proponents of change within the church have at one time been on the other side of the fence on this issue......until it begin to come home to them. As with society the rate of divorce has risen dramatically within the church and as this has happened many of our pastors and leaders have had to deal with children and loved ones who have ended up in this state. Then, in my opinion, is when we began to see such a strong push for change. This is the first problem I have with the direction the church is taking.

The next problem that I have is the way in which the leaders have gone about promoting this change. It has not been done in a manner in which God-directed discussion and prayer have been at the core of the debate but rather seems more like an arrogant force feeding. Now don't misunderstand what I'm saying I believe that the other side has not approached this problem in the right spirit either but regardless of my personal convictions i feel that the motivartions and tactics that are behind this move are questionable. (Not with everyone, but with many).
This troubles me greatly, especially knowing that behind all the rhetoric and posturing, people are getting hurt.

Now to the heart of the post. In reading the discussion here on this board and on the COGOP board as well I have been, let's say extremely disapppointed and truly embarassed by the nature of the discussions. Especially when I began to realize that I wasn't reading the rants of teenage keyboard warriors but actual pastors and leaders. The level of immaturity and arrogance has truly bothered me and further precipitated a growing concern within me for the state of our church today. I've read post after post of childish and loveless jargon.

In this particular thread the attitude and nature of some of the posts are bothersome. Is it appropriate for a pastor to laugh at and sarcastically mock someone? Regardless of whether or not you believe the person is really who they say they are and sincere or whether it is someone just trying to stir the pot. What if she is sincere, is that the type of attitude that would give one the opportunity to minister to her? I don't think so regardless of how silly or in left field the claim may have been. (I'm not trying to bash Pastor Gary here I just thought it was a good example and very reflective of much of the dialogue found on these boards).

If much of the content found on these boards is indicative of the level of maturity and Christlikeness in the church than there is no wonder we seem to be in such dire straits as an organization.

Just my opinion, I hope I haven't been too offensive. I would just suggest a little tempering of the tongue. It's not that I think that a good strong debate is wrong it's just when the nature of it becomes arrogant, and condescending that I think it is very immature.

Perhaps the flesh will dread the heavy sword,....the capital punishment of the flames, and all the executioner's talent for torture. But let the spirit respond to itself and to the flesh that these things, while very painful, have even so, been recieved with equanimaty and with acute desire for the sake of fame and glory.

Welcome to Jude2.

Questioning the motivation tells me that you are in your youth.

The motivation is not an overnite happening. This all started more than 20 years ago. In the early 80's God began calling the COGOP to Repentance. Unfortunately to many looked at each other and said NOT ME.. We are it. We have the most perfect doctrine in the Christian World. We are going to be the Bride of Christ. What have we got to repent over.

God continued to call us to repentence over the next several years and our leaders began to seek gods will. What was he calling us to repent over. By the early 90's it became evident that our self righteous attitude and judemental attitude was some of the apparent sins wrong.

The RING issue..ooooo.. This issue only represented our holier than thou attitude by looking a someone who was wearing rings and condemning them for doing so. The Ring Issue was nothing more than the Tip of the Iceberg. Thumping our chest, declaring ourselves bettter than anybody else. Setting ourselves up on judgement seats and feeling good about it was dead wrong. PERIOD.

Since the early 90's and we got past the tip of the iceburg we began to seek and study Gods word to a depth that we had never done before. Why should we before now.. We had always taught and preached things the way our forefathers had taught us. Why change.. UMM

In doing so it has become apparent that there are some other subjects including the D/R subject that needed to be researched and studied more deeply than we had done in the past. ITS NOT THE ONLY ONE..

As far as it being pushed.. its more like being Dragged ..
Brother Varlack at the last GA spoke about change being like turning a 747 around.. it takes time.. its not a two seater plane that can be turned around on a dime.. If you misied that sermon.. I can arrange a download..

This is not being pushed.. it began over 20 years ago.. and because of some hard hearted and set in there ways people it appears to be being pushed, rushed etc.. but by no means is it..

You may be right that culture is playing a part in this process but it is not rushing it.

How can you attempt to communicate and yet refuse to listen to anything?

IF you do not hold a grudge, why consult a lawyer?

If you do not hold a grudge, why the "rage"?

If you are "pleased with your journey with the Lord", how are you yourself changing the Word of God?

How can you be "pleased with your journey with the Lord",, when you have PERSONALLY conformed YOUR LIFE to a "worldly life style"?

From what moral ground does one who has abandoned themselves to a "worldly life style", condemn a group of people who may make that same change?

Why can't they make that same change and be "pleased with their journey with the Lord" in the same way you are?

jnsbray wrote:All of the ministers that have passed on put their heart and soul into teaching and preaching the word of God... (In which I am proud to say that I knew several through my father and the ministry).

There are many dead ministers who put their heart souls finances blood sweat and tears into Mormanism and Jehovah Witnesses as well.

jnsbray wrote:Gerald Creasy, I can only hope that you are no relation to D.D. Creasy in which has gone on to be with the Lord. He was a remarkable man in God... Yet he would never uphold this mess in which a select few are trying to create...

You speak in total, complete and profound ignorance.

Do not appeal to the blood of my grandfather to justify your blatant contradictions or your inability to understand.

jnsbray wrote:I am far from being a TCOGger trying to stir up trouble, I just would like to have scripture other than the "Good Samaritan" where it states in the Bible that I can have 2 husbands.

If you have an honest heart, and an open mind why don't you start a post and ASK for it to be explained to you, rather than have "rage" at what you can't comprehend?

jnsbray wrote: Kenya, can you answer that for me? I mean aren't you and I in the same situation here?

I can not speak for Kenya, but I have met Kenya, enjoyed fellowship whith her and her husband and come to know her through Jude2.

I can already say there are worlds of difference between Kenya and whoever you really are.

Can you be honest and trustworthy and give us your real name and that of your father as Kenya has?

jnsbray wrote:I would like to have proof that what you all are doing is right, because I know it isn't right. You are trying to change things to fit worldly situations when in all truth, the world should change to fit God.

The world should change to fit God and I agree with you on that, yet if you would like to have proof, why come on here and take us to task for the "rage" you feel, all the while not taking into consderation the pleased journey you youself expirience?

jnsbray wrote:

Now I AM beginning to see. Can you establish any of these thoughts with scripture?

Does not Romans tell us that the Righteousness of Jesus Christ is given to us upon salvation?

Does belonging to a specific organization improve upon his righteousness?

Even those TCOGgers here will tell you there is no difference with Bride Christians and non-bride Christians.

jnsbray wrote:I may not be in her beauty, but I sure wouldn't want to answer for her scars either...

I am still waiting for SCRIPTURE!!!

Think of me what you will, I could care less...

If you could care less, why are you here?

Is it to express your "rage"?

Do you enjoy, in your rage, ranting on an organization and the people therin, yet do not want anyone to ask you questions or answer the supposed contradictions you yourself have presented?

You have posted in response to several obvious contradictions which I pointed out in a post and yet you have not even addressed them as to why those contradictions exist.

badnova,

Find someone who has been with the church for many years.

Allow them to tell you of the ministers who served the COGOP (when it was still the COG) who were disfellowshiped after putting in the NEW stance on D&R.

Ministers who stood before the new lord God A.J. Tomlinson and cried asking "why? WHY!?" as the change was made.

Study how THAT change was forced through.

Don't come on here posting from a superior level, you will be knocked down a peg or two (or twelve).

Your post would carry more weight with me, at least, if you chose to do it as yourself, and not as a defective Chevrolet.

Mark chapter 10

Postby jnsbray » April 18th, 2004, 5:08 pm

Hey ya'll check this out...

MARK 10:4 - 12
And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

ADULTRY IS AGAINST THE TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH!!! OR IS THAT NEXT TO BE CHANGED?

Matthew 4:31 - 32
It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

AGAIN ADULTRY/FORNICATION...

Hebrews 13:4

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

OK, THIS ISN'T MY BEST, BUT I AM TRYING... Oh, by the way... My name is Sandi Bray...

Gerald Creasy - I have never nor will I ever speak in a bad manner of your Grandfather himself... He was a remarkable man and a wonderful minister.
I have sat under many of sermons preached by great ministers...

I gave a few of my scriptures, now please tell me where a person can have more than one spouse... and not refering to "The Good Samaritan".

Gerald, first whatever happened in the past really had no bearing on my post which was concerning what is presently taking place in the church. Evils done in the past to one side does not constitute wrongdoing by the other today. Really that's not even a sensible argument.

Secondly, I don't think I was posting from a superior level, you give me too much credit. But hey, I'll take the compliment. As far as being knocked down a notch or whatever, I usually don't engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed individual.

All joking aside, really I was only posting my observations, I honestly was not looking for a fight.
