Anyone else not like to talk about the rapture?

Postby Dr. Ron » January 10th, 2008, 11:11 am

I don't know many people who have a real clue.....

After the Tim Lahaye series of horrible fabrications and fables....everyone I have heard since has included some of his stupidity in that.
Hmmmmm, 300,000,000 dollars of sales.....wonder if he did a Rick Warren and paid 90% tithes......nope....didn't

And there you have it

pastorables wrote:The word rapture is never actually used in scripture, however Jesus is indeed coming back for his own. I find it intriguing that any Christian wouldn't desire to talk about the return of our Savior.

Paul longed for Christ's appearing and admonished future Christians to do the same.

2 Timothy 4:8
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

To the contrary, the Bible tells us that mockers and scoffers will talk about Christ's return in a trivial way.

2 Peter 3:3-4
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?

And there you have it in a nutshell: to a man who only owns a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Those who get really wrapped up in the study of eschatology start to see interest in the subject as a litmus test of the spirituality of others, as has just been proof-texted.

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Nor, apparantly, adding to and taking away from the word of God.

Gerald Creasy wrote:...I love to talk about just about anything regarding scripture. But people tend to have quite a few assumptions, pour meanings into words that the words themselves contradict, and have New testament people talking nonsense in a way that if they themselves talked would have people questioning their sanity.

One can not take other parts of the Bible and create an interpretation that makes Jesus spout nonsense elsewhere. How are we comfortable with interpretations and strong held beliefs that make Jesus talk like a lying fool?

It is not so much that i have an establsihed belief I am defending, it is the fact that the base upon which some beliefs are constructed is fragile Bibliclally AND PEOPLE DON'T LIKE to have their sacred cows gored.

I completely agree!

exactly, though I personally do not equate the doctrine of "The Rapture of the Church" with Christs return; which are both different topics than the physical "resurrection of the saints". :)

Shoot fire.....I thought I was the only one who didn't fall for the LaHaye Rapture scenario.
In agreement with Gerald on the adding to and taking away of the word of God.
He made a heap of monies, while deceiving a bunch of people. "scarey"

I'm going to cut LaHaye some slack here. Just as I'm not sure I agree with his interpretation of Revalation, I'm not sure he is wrong either. I certainly don't think he intentionally deceived anyone.

The Word says that we should be willing to read about it (Rev 1:3) and in my opinion, be willing to talk about it as leaders of the flock.
For example - our churches need to take notice about what the seven churches of Asia had struggles with so that we can avoid those same pitfalls.
And who does not want to talk about the end of times and it's descriptions about those heavenly rewards for those who love Him?
How can we remain silent about that?

But Joey, that's not what most Eschatology-focused people mean... they want to spend endless hours speculating on who/what is the beast, speculating on the mechanism of the mark, etc. They are generally wrong, as history has proven.

It is one thing to provoke others to righteous living, warn them of the pitfalls of the past, and live as if today could be the last day, and quite another to find the views of others heretical because they don't buy into the latest end-times mania.

When did this thread become an Eschatology thread? Someone states that they don't enjoy talking about the rapture and the rebuttal is that biblically we should indeed desire to look for and speak of the Lord's coming. It doesn't require deep end times doctrine to respond to the initial post in this thread, and that comes from one who just happens to enjoy Eschatology.
