Paul longed for Christ's appearing and admonished future Christians to do the same.
2 Timothy 4:8
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
To the contrary, the Bible tells us that mockers and scoffers will talk about Christ's return in a trivial way.
2 Peter 3:3-4
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?

Gosh, It must be my perscription meds: I had to think for a second how this affected Blue Oyster Cult.

But people tend to have quite a few assumptions, pour meanings into words that the words themselves contradict, and have New testament people talking nonsense in a way that if they themselves talked would have people questioning their sanity.
One can not take other parts of the Bible and create an interpretation that makes Jesus spout nonsense elsewhere. How are we comfortable with interpretations and strong held beliefs that make Jesus talk like a lying fool?
It is not so much that i have an establsihed belief I am defending, it is the fact that the base upon which some beliefs are constructed is fragile Bibliclally AND PEOPLE DON'T LIKE to have their sacred cows gored.

not a topic I otherwise like to talk about. it brings up too much consternation with so many folks that "know" they are right, whatever their view.
I completely agree!Pastor Gary wrote:As for me, I find that often people who are focused upon endless eschatology discussions can lose interest in ministering to people in the here and now. Not always -- it's a generalization.
It's a fact that someday, something will happen. I don't want to miss today fretting about tomorrow.
exactly, though I personally do not equate the doctrine of "The Rapture of the Church" with Christs return; which are both different topics than the physical "resurrection of the saints".pastorables wrote:The word rapture is never actually used in scripture, however Jesus is indeed coming back for his own. Joey wrote:The Word says that we should be willing to read about it (Rev 1:3) and in my opinion, be willing to talk about it as leaders of the flock.
For example - our churches need to take notice about what the seven churches of Asia had struggles with so that we can avoid those same pitfalls.
And who does not want to talk about the end of times and it's descriptions about those heavenly rewards for those who love Him?
How can we remain silent about that?

But Joey, that's not what most Eschatology-focused people mean... they want to spend endless hours speculating on who/what is the beast, speculating on the mechanism of the mark, etc. They are generally wrong, as history has proven.
It is one thing to provoke others to righteous living, warn them of the pitfalls of the past, and live as if today could be the last day, and quite another to find the views of others heretical because they don't buy into the latest end-times mania.
