Exactly, Brother Sam. I wasn't talking/asking about a personal issue/level. this was about representation of a given state make official apology.pastorsam wrote:I'm pretty sure the question asked was "should states apologize for slavery"; not should you personally apologize for slavery.

God Bless You- Sam Smith
and I agree with you Dr. Ron, on this topic. I believe that official governmental/representative "apology" has been made.Dr. Ron wrote:...An official apology was included in the emancipation proclaimation many years ago. The very fact that Abe Lincoln did what he did was an apology....
However, I also agree with pastorsam, in that if a local state condoned slavery, that it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to make apology in some official capacity, if they haven't already. I do not think that all states should do this, however.
I do not see that as the same thing.Pastor Gary wrote:Dr. Ron wrote:"Should COGOP apologize to individuals they kept out of the church for things they now allow? Same principle as I see it.
I'd say "YES" we should, and I have tried as much as possible to do my part.
obviously the issues are different, The challenge I have is that the people involved in slavery are long gone, while those hurt by our church are not. I would apologize, if I thought it would mean something, when communicating with those that have been given the left boot of dis-fellowship. I joined the COGOP after all that had already taken place, though.
timing is everything.
