The forgotten college class nightmare!!

Postby DeWayneTN » October 10th, 2007, 4:59 pm

If you've ever been to college, you've probably had this dream. If you're going to college, don't worry - you'll have it soon enough.

In my dream, I'm halfway through a semester in college or at least 3 weeks in, enjoying life, having fun, keeping up with everything....except for one lone class I didn't realize I was enrolled for. In my absolute horror, I realize it's past the dropout time for this class and yet I've never even met the teacher!!! I start sweating it out. And then I wake up.

It's amazing to me how many people I've spoken to that share the same recurring nightmare I've experienced. I know at least a half dozen (maybe more after I post this blog). The other day a coworker and I were walking out of the office and talking about dreams and before I could even ask if he'd had this dream, he said, "I've had this nightmare where I'm in college and I've missed going to a class I didn't know I had." He said his fiftysomething father still has that dream.

Does this nightmare sound familiar to you?

I had a cold sweat this week that is similar. Read the list of assignments and deadlines for the week (I thought) and planned my week. Today I re-read the list and discovered a MAJOR portion of the week's assignment that I had never seen was due TONIGHT. I just submitted it with hours to spare, but it was a "how could I possibly have missed that??" moment similar to your dream.

interesting. I have not experienced that. though have dreamt a similar situation as PG mentions that actually happened to him. of course my nightmare in college is more on those lines... I dream that I somehow misunderstood the assignment that I have been working on so diligently, and only discover that I had "missed it" the day the presentation is to be made, and others have done theirs first!

I have that dream all the time... and it's been a LOOOOOONG time since I was in college! Mine is usually that it's the end of the semester and I realize that I haven't been to any of my biology lab classes, so I'm going to fail. Or, it's time for finals, and I realize that I've only been to one class the entire semester so I'm totally unprepared.

The funny thing is, I actually did that once. For one class, I went to the class exactly once the entire semester (Well, twice, if you count the day of the final exam.) I took the exam and went up to hand in the exam to the prof., and he looked at me like, "Who in the world are you?" But he didn't say anything. I got a C in the class, BTW. I thought that was pretty good considering the circumstances.

How completely freaky!!!! I have this dream all the time about law school In my dream, I'm in my last semester or next-to-last semester and, somehow (never clear in the dream) I've failed a class and won't tell anyone that I won't graduate on time, that I'll need an extra semester. But, then, it is like up in the air whether I'll graduate, and in my dream I have this intent (but never make it for whatever reason) to go see the registrar to double check my credits. In each dream, there's an awareness of some class that I failed to attend, or waited until like the last week of the semester to attend (that ain't gonna happen at UA -- you'll get booted for not going long before then). So, the dream is always some variation on these themes, but almost always includes all of them.

I didn't know it was such a widespread thing. That's amazing to me. BTW, I did graduate on time and didn't fail anything and attended regularly. So, I dunno what's up with that dream.
