Because some people think EVERYTHING they find funny, EVERYONE will think is funny...and you got to wade through the jokes for serious comment.

Don't you have an older relative that forwards Everything funny to you?

Things are a little slower right now, and if everything went into one forum, it probably wouldn't be too bad, but when things really heat up here, it can be alot to wade through, especially if you are not an addict who is on here everyday. I generally keep up with the board daily, because I sit in front of a computer all day everyday at work, and can work through the forum during slow times.

If I go on vacation, or even a long weekend, sometimes it can be alot to catch up on, and wading through other stuff makes that a little harder. I do go to the other forums (at least many of them) and I am sure some of my stuff you wouldn't want to wade through, but that's the nice things about having the categories, but even if posts are left for "only a day" that still means they are there to wade through, and really doesn't solve the problem, if they are there for a day, I really could care less if they stay, because I've already read them.

I know it can be hard to determine where some things go, and from what I have seen the mods give alot of leeway on those, but when something is as obvious as some of these items and there are sub-forums specifically designed for them, then it isn't mistakes, it's just blatant "I don't care" attitude and that is annoying.

I voted for less strictness.

I would prefer the prayer requests and praise to be in the general forum. It does get more views. Most people want their request in here anyway.

I do think there is bit too many. But I see where the need might be... I do believe a few are dead. :? If I wanted something noticed and it should be posted in a dead forum I would want to draw attention to it somehow in the General Forum. Generally if I have to scroll to see all the forums... I don't visit.

BUT... it's not my board! :D

I took option #3. I think that works the best.

My preference is to definitely keep the Prayers & Praise section separate. That is the first one that I go to now that I don't have as much time to spend on line. I want to be praying for your needs and rejoicing in your praises even if I miss the rest.

When the P&P were in the General Forum, it was hard to find them at times and I would miss many P&P posts.

So, I would prefer that we at least keep that one separate.
God Bless You

No, I like the Prayer and Praise separate, I do check it, but it's easy to skim through that way. When they were in the general forum, it was hard to tell when something new was added. So much of the prayer and praise activity is "praying for you" or "Thank the Lord" rather than new info on the situation, it's nice to be able to go skim through what's new.

Honestly I read them, and pray about them, but I don't read every "I'm praying too" post, just as I don't generally post something like that unless it is someone or something that I am particularly close to and know they would want to know I saw it.

I think it's good that we have a separate Prayer and praise but sometimes we're understanding if someone has a pressing need. Though I think many people do visit the prayer forum. Some other forums such as the youth forum don't get much action. BTW, I have a youth topic I've been thinking about posting that I'd like some feedback on.
(Hint: visit the Youth forum. lol :)

I voted other. The number of forums is fine. And both moving posts to appropriate forums and discouraging people from posting in the wrong forum just to catch more eyeballs are good.

I would just say that some nuance is needed in deciding where a post belongs (and seems to be being exercised). For example, every question relating to doctrine may not belong in the doctrine forum. The intent of the post's author should be considered. If they're just looking for general chit chat about the topic or want to discuss an implication of a doctrine rather than the doctrine itself it might belong in the general forum. If they're looking for a technical answer, in-depth discussion, or strong debate then it definitely belongs in the sub-forum. Ditto for sports and entertainment topics.
For the truth that lies at the heart of theology is not something there to be discovered, but something, or rather someone, to whom we must surrender. The mystery of faith is not ultimately something that invites our questioning, but something that questions us.

I voted for the third one also. I like the Prayer and Praise Forum being separate because, as a number of you have mentioned, I go there first and sometimes that is the only place I check because of my schedule. I always want to include these in my evening prayers. If I have extra time then I check out the General Discussion Forum and the others. I think the moderators do an outstanding job, it isn't an easy one. Thanks. rjc

We can stop the Birthday/Anniversary posts completely if they are disruptive to the board.

I certainly hope this doesn't happen. YellowRose, we appreciate the Birthday and Anniversary posts. We need some happy moments in the mix.

Keep it coming, Rose... people are blowing off steam in this thread, but a lot of people really look forward to seeing their special days recognized, and I think it is a nice part of community-building here.

I vote to keep the Bdays and Anniversaries on the Gen forum. I like having the P and P on a dif forum. I would like to see a Computer Help Forum, that way anyone who needed computer help would know where to go and the pages would not be as long and the help posted would be there for anyone. But what do I know. :D

Yellowrose,

scooter was not complaining about the Birthdays/Anniversaries. He was poking at someone else who used them in a complaint about what was posted where.

BTW, don't forget me in February.

I really don't care if we have one forum, two forums or 60 forums.

However, I think we should stick to posting in the proper forum or have only one forum. I think it should be one or the other. Here's my reasoning.

If we allow any post to stand in the general forum for a period of time and then move it as has been suggested, I will be one of those who will have to do all the moving. EVERBODY would then post their post in the General Forum knowing it could be moved to the proper forum later. Somebody has to do all that moving. You can see why that wouldn't be my choice.

Also, if the moderating was looser about some posts being "misplaced" as has also been suggested, who would determine whose was moved and whose wasn't. If it's not across the board, cut and dry, then someone is going to be complaining ALL THE TIME because theirs was moved and someone elses was not.

It has already been stated that an emergency would be an individual judgment call.

Anyway, just the opinion of one who takes the actual beatings of trying to properly place postings. :(
