Here's another solution (see, yall didn't know how smart I was :-) ): Consolidate some of the extra forums or remove them and let the contents post in the main forum. If no one hardly ever posts in one, combine it with another or eliminate it and let the posts stand in the General Discussion Forum. Just a thought.

I don't care at all, honestly. I hit the "posts since last visit" button and often don't even notice what category they are in.

Yellow Rose, please keep up the birthday and anniversary posts, everyone enjoys them and it would be our loss if we don't have them. This is a huge job which you do so well. Thanks. rjc

This would be my preference too. However, it would take manpower to keep up with it and move it unless there is some kind of "auto" move available...

Yeah I have thought about that, too. I don't want to add more headaches - just trying to figure out how some utlize the high-traffic area for announcements. Perhaps it wouldn't have to be a set 24-hour period but just every few days when a mod notices a few lingering on the front page. Could be that some would die off anyway before a mod would have to move them anyway.

There is a forum mod out there somewhere for phpBB that creates an option to create Global Announcements. These announcements would appear in every forum and automatically die off after so many days. Google it and check it out...

I also picked the third choice, but I don't mind posts intentionally posted in the General Forum for additional viewing opportunities. This is Pastor Gary's board and I submit to his ultimate wishes regarding usage of the board, however I do believe we can become legalistic about the whole matter. For instance, if I wanted to share about a sports player with CoGoP roots, I wouldn't want to be limited to the Sports Forum. This would be general information that many would enjoy, yet might never see due to never visiting the limited forum, etc. This is a fun place and nice community. Let's not forget the bottom line.

Blessings,

Actually, they don't have to be moved at all; whether by a person or an automatic process. If they aren't getting any attention, they will naturally slide off the first couple of pages. If they are getting attention (except for heated doctrinal debates) maybe they should be left in the General Discussion since there is general interest in the post.

Besides that, the issue that precipitated this post was a want-ad. There are only 20 want ads posted total. Would 20 more posts in the General Discussion Forum cause the breakdown of order on Jude2?

Actually, Sam, they do need to be moved! I say this because of the "bump" technique employed by some to keep their post at the top of the first page.

Personally I like the sub-forum format. I, as is the case with many on the board, have limited time, so I don't want to have to wade through a bunch of post in which I have no interest.

Call me a luddite, but I miss the good old days when there was one forum and no one had to figure out where to post what they wanted to say. I kinda think we went a bit astray by separating discussions on various topics. It's hard enouogh to find time to check one forum, let alone five or six.
There are things that were helpful about it, I guess. Maybe the discussions about American Idol and other reality shows was better placed on it's own forum, and the sex and intimacy forum was probably less offensive to some who are embarassed by frank discussion on such topics. But why move prayer requests and praise reports off to the side when more people would be able to see them on the more visited forum?

And, I am mystified that there was never a specific COGOP/COG/TCOG forum away from the general discussion forum, specifically for discussing denominational issues and General Assembly decisions, polity, and policy. I mean, that seems like a no-brainer for it's own forum, especially considering that not everyone who posts here is with any of those groups.

Thetre is a certain "tidiness", for lack of a better word, to having topics pigeonholed in their own forums. Maybe it makes it easier for the mods to police the forum, I don't know. But even if it is less messy and easier to monitor, I think it's harder for people to get into discussions, which kinda detracts from the forum.

I am willing to abide by whatever the owner and operator of the board deems necessary, but I think maybe we could weed a few forums out of the current crop, and make the board in general more inclusive and useful.
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

Make that 13!

Strangely enough... I find myself agreeing with much of Mike V's post.

I regularly clean up stuff and move the forums around until I find a good set up. Some forums get ignored or don't catch on as well as I had hope so I reshuffle. It isn't that big of a deal.

I think some of the lesser trafficked forums should go. I know recently Area 51 and Victorious Secret got deleted, and I haven't really missed them.

Because some people think EVERYTHING they find funny, EVERYONE will think is funny...and you got to wade through the jokes for serious comment.

Don't you have an older relative that forwards Everything funny to you?
