ALFRED HITCHCOCK (Topic Competition)

The legendary ALFRED HITCHCOCK is my all-time favorite Director.

Of the movies he directed, my personal favorites would be:

VERTIGO
SUSPICION
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
STRANGERS ON A TRAIN
NORTH BY NORTHWEST

Did you know that he never received an Academy Award for Best Director?

Paully, yes, he was extremely popular as a director... and that's the big mystery (no pun intended). Many actors clamored to work with him, although he is quoted comparing actors to cattle. :lol:

Actors either adored him or despised him. There was no "middle road" with Hitch.

He was definitely a control freak - demanding final approval of every aspect of his films, including script, location, set, costume design and music score.

Alfred Hitchcock. The man Raymond Chadler called "That Fat B-----d".

I've alway preferred Rear Window and Spellbound. I also found Saboteur with Bob Cummings interesting.

The thing that annoys me about Hitchcock films is how many of his leading ladies are so cookie cutter. Sure, a nice elegant blond is a nice cut of cookie but still...

Gerald, you're right about the "cookie cutter" ladies of Hitchcock. He had a weakness for beautiful blondes. My personal favorite - Joan Fontaine.

For you fellow-Hitch fans, a rarely seen or discussed, but entirely fascinating film of his, ROPE, is not to be missed. The entire movie was filmed like a stage-play in non-stop 10-minute sequences.

Several of our OLDer members in Florida (I mean, OLD!) confessed to being afraid of birds TO THIS DAY because of that movie!

I can't appreciate fear, myself. But he did make interesting films.
