Your Christian Movement, Tradition, or Background

Postby Poimen » April 23rd, 2007, 9:34 am

We have the poll on which organization, denomination, or what have you we all belong to. So I thought a look more at our movement and our traditional background might be beneficial and interesting as well.

Which are you?

Well, normally, yes. But there is large section of arminian groups that are not pentecostal.

And since Pentecostalism was itself a unique movement I thought I should include it distinctly.

Sorry about that Paully. I didn't mean to be confusing. I would consider you a hybrid actually. :lol: Part radical/Ananbaptist,etc. and part Pentecostal.

BUt that forces an Either/ OR choice. The Arminian outlook was more responsible for COGOPS mind set on most everything BUT the issue of the HG baptism.

What do you suggest as an adequate amendment or remedy?

Not necessarily and not always. Some very visible and well-known COG Pastors openly espouse a moderated view that is not classicly Arminian; it is not precisely TULIP Calvinist, but closer to Calvinism than Arminianism. (If I understand it, it is much like the Chuck Smith/Calvary Chapel view.)
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Okay I understand that I am also aware of Wayne Grudem who is, I am told, okay with HG baptism, but is more towards reformed views.

Perhaps I should have ask arent all COGOP Pentecostals (at least until very recently) Arminian?

Well in the broadest sense, yes. But more specifically COGOP and COG and their offshoots were restorationist movements as uch as or more than they were Arminian, Wesleyan, etc. They (naturally one could argue) became Pentecostal -- thus Pentecostal Restorationist.

voted calvanist. Though raised in an evangelical (pretty sure that would be - Restorationist (non-pentecostal) , I was not saved until later and initially attended Baptist church for months before realizing I was not a cessationist. though stayed more "Calvanistic", until I began my Bible College education. Thuough, of course, during some of those initial years, I mostly had no idea of what any of those words meant. :)
