Week 4 and your month long observation

Postby KBevangelist » September 23rd, 2007, 4:23 pm

Well boys and girls, after week 4 what do you think?

Let me go on record as saying my puppies from Athens started growing up. Was a great game and all i can say is "How bout them Dawgs!"

L'ville lost. TC are you still alive or did you have heartattack?

WVa won. USC won. LSU beat Darth VISOR.

Miami won. Oklahoma continues to kill everyone.

Kentucky beat the hogs (and I can say Kentucky is playing pretty good)

The first month has been incredible.

So what do you say............

Hawaii

Postby Pastor Gary » September 23rd, 2007, 5:11 pm

Hawaii is now 4-0 after a 66-10 victory Saturday Night, and I expect to see them climb a few clicks in the polls again this week. Our 1st string quarterback, Colt Brennan, didn't even step on the field... that victory was led by our second string (and one quarter with our THIRD string) quarterback.

Oregon beat up on Stanford in the second half -- 55-31. We're now 4-0 and ranked #11.

USC is #1, California #9 I believe and my Ducks #11. UCLA receiving votes. Give the Pac-10 some street cred.

I have been impressed.

Why is Brennan hurt?

Brennan has been nursing a slightly sprained ankle from the road game a week ago. He apparently played most of the second half of that road game on it sprained, and June Jones (a) didn't want to risk his golden boy, and (b) was confident we could clean some Jr. High Girls JV team with our last string.

Carolina Southern Buccaneers?? I was told their home stadium has 4,000 seats.

That they did.

By the way. Not sure that I mention the bumble bee's from GT lost to Va. Needless to say this gave me great joy.

Notre Dame actually scored a touchdown. You have thought they were a kid in a candy score. Great thing is they still lost. They will still probably wind up in a BCS bowl

Here's my thoughts:

Didn't see USC but they won big.

LSU looks like the team to beat, and what a call on the fake FG, was that not one of the best plays you have seen? And just think it wasn't the "'ole ball coach" that called it.

Oklahoma, continues to beat up on the cup cakes. I'm not sure how good that team is. I mean who have they played? N. Texas, Miami, which is not very good, Utah St., and Tulsa, not any real powers if you ask me, and really the only game on the schedule is Texas, and I don't know how good they are.

Florida wins, but man are they beatable. LSU will beat them for sure. Tebow is good, but he needs some help.

WVU - looked really good against ECU, not a real power but held them in check surrendering less than 175 yards total offense. The game this Friday at Tampa will be for the Big East Championship. If WVU gets by USF they will run the table.

'Bama - UGA game what a game, better beat Bama now, because in a couple of years that may not happen.

Don't look now but somebody has awaken the Wolverines in the Big House, they look like the team we thought they would be now.

THE OSU looked good, can't wait till they show up at the Big House to send Lloyd Carr out with another loss and open the door of Les Myles to jump to Ann Arbor.

How about the UK Cats, going to Arkansas and pulling one out? Woodson is the real deal, and I can't wait to see him on Sunday's.

UL - the little red birds can't stop anybody on Defense. I mean the Orange was what 117 in total offense out of 119? The only school worse was ND which lost again, ain't God good!!!!

LSU's now infamous play was incredible and to watch their coach react was great. My vote is LSU all the way.

I agree on OKL. They have not played anyone

Pastor Rob, you are right, Florida is beatable and boy would I have danced a jig if they had lost.

Wow, what a great weekend...

Go State... State is 3-1. They need to be because we have a killer schedule left. UAB is a win we should have, but it won't be easy. I think we can win against TN. hehehehe....

LSU was great. The fake field goal was priceless.

I can't believe Penn State lost. LOL....

The Georgia/Alabama game was a great game from start to finish. I was really impressed with Stafford. He has a great arm and was throwing some good balls.

USF is playing some good football. It was fun watching them against NC. The real test will be when they play WVU.

Forgot to mention that Arizona State is also in the top 25.

So we have USC, Cal, Oregon and AZ State in the Top25, with UCLA receiving votes (and they'll be back in soon). Go Pac10.

You'd think ND won a bowl game for the first time in awhile, given their celebration after their first touchdown.

I was at the Paul Thorn concert at Riverfest in Decatur on Sat. night, and snuck back to watch the Bama/UGA game at times on a big screen one of the BBQ trailers had out there.

Alabama's weaknesses were exposed big time, but that's a good thing. I was disappointed for the players, but they played as well as I think they could in that game. Our D-backs got burned, consistently, but we knew coming into the season that it would be a weak D overall. Georgia really showed that a team with a halfway decent ground game and a better than average passing game can spin our defense around in circles. Still, they manned up near the end and found a way to tie it in regulation ---- only to get burned on a perfect pass from Stafford in OT. Georgia is pretty good, but not fantastic. We lost to the better team, and we played the kind of game against that kind of team that I would expect. Lots of work to do on the QB, but I think as the year goes on, he adapts better to the more vertical game that Major Applewhite brings to the table. I'm not concerned yet. And, even if we lose 3 or even 4 more games, it will be as expected. Anything less than 4 losses is, in my opinion, gravy.

We have 3 teams left to play that I think we come into the games as the underdogs, one decidedly (LSU). This weekend against Florida State is one of them, although I think Bama may actually be a slight favorite on the betting lines on that. If so, someone's likely to make some money off Bama this weekend. I think we can win, but if we're favored, we don't cover the spread if it is more than 2 points. The other team that we are likely to lose to is Tennessee. That's going to be a lot like the Georgia game. I may change my opinion on that depending on how much we improve in the next couple of weeks. We'll see. I think, now, that we beat Auburn unless Brandon Cox wakes up and starts throwing well and gets some protection.

Overall, I'm very, very happy with Alabama's direction. Elated, actually.

Other teams/games:

Louisville v. Kentucky -- Wow, a couple of years they were drafting epitaphs for Rich Brooks, now he has them in the top 25. Enjoy it!! I'm glad to see UK do well -- we'll see how long Brooks stays before somebody sweeps in and offers him more than UK pays their basketball coaches. Brian Brohm --- hope to see you in a Dolphins uniform in a year, if we don't get Colt Brennan.

LSU v. S. Car. -- Somebody fed those guys Miracle Gro. They're giants, and they're fast. I can't see them losing to anyone in the SEC right now. SC is not bad, either; but, still, for those who love to hate Spurrier, it had to be fun.

WVU -- still crankin'. What can you say? WVU = BCS.

Hawaii -- haven't seen them play, but the numbers speak for themselves. Colt Brennan has to be, IMO, the leading Heisman candidate. He's doing more for his team's cause than perhaps any other player in college football. If he stays healthy, he'll be in the top 2 or 3 picks next April.

Texas A&M v. Miami -- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Pack your boxes and bags, Fran. Sneak out in the middle of the night again, this time with torches and shotguns following you all the way to Kansas. Don't bother waving good-bye when you go --- how's it feel when the shoe's on the other foot, and you can hear the rush of air coming from beneath it as it drops?!? I hope you lose every game you ever coach.

Mississippi State -- alright, now here's some love. Those guys are playing football in Starkville. I think Bama wins that game, but I'm concerned about it. This is a team that is ready to win, ready to make a statement that it is better than advertised, better than expectations, and better watch out for 'em. Right now, if you play State, you're on dangerous ground. Don't overlook them.
