The one boy that remains in jail was offered a plea bargain to which he and his attorney agreed to. In court he did not take the plea bargain, it went to trial, and he lost. His attorney was shocked that he did not take the plea as he said he would and was certainly not prepared to try the case.

I find

I find it utterly ridiculous that people keep pointing to a hanging of a noose in a tree, which is beyond just offensive, as some sort of excuse for this crime.

If the fella they beat would have died would the charge be reduced because a different fella called them names? Should they not be held or charged according to the crime they commited?????

What gives?

I'll tell you what it is, it is overcompensating for to appease african americans.

If six white guys beat and kicked an african american like this, Jesse and Al would protest that they should be charged to the fullest extent of the law and you all know it.

You cannot win for losing with these type of racial issues.
What we need here is a good revival! lol

Shellie,

This is what hurts about second hand reports. The things I read about the case stated that the boy had a light concussion, a black eye, and showed up at a school event later that evening. If true, that's a far cry from unrecognizable or point of death. I also understand that the boy used slur remarks, possibly "N" word, toward one of the six boys, which brought about fighting among a group of whites and blacks. Does the racism of nooses and "N" words justify the beating? Probably not, but I will say that I've witnessed the spirit of racism in purest form, even within the church, and racism often leaves pain and scarring much worse than a beating. I am ashamed to post the things I've heard first hand from the mouth of church members against blacks. Sadly, God's people (regardless of ethnicity) have not hearkened to Bible teachings on racism over the years.

I do agree that if the beating had been reverse with six whites against one black that it would have likely been labeled a hate crime. That's society and we have to deal with it, but let us not forget that these very attitudes were birthed by burning crosses and hangings in the deep south.

Pastor Ables,

This is what hurts about second hand reports. The things I read about the case stated that the boy had a light concussion, a black eye, and showed up at a school event later that evening.

And that is what is wrong with media reports. They always want to get the reaction either way. Since when have we ever been able to believe what we've read in the papers?

All I can tell you is that I saw pictures of the boy in the hospital. He was black and blue and bloody with eyes swelled shut. He face was cut up as well.

I, too, have witnessed the spirit of racism. Our church in Florida has more black members than white and I can tell you first hand that racism towards whites is alive and well. Racism is NOT a white problem.

That's society and we have to deal with it, but let us not forget that these very attitudes were birthed by burning crosses and hangings in the deep south.

These attitudes weren't birthed from burning crosses. These attitudes were birthed a long time ago after the fall.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

My entire point is that wrong is wrong.

If it had been six white boys that had done this, we'd be ashamed of them. We would not be defending them as we are with the Jena 6.

Thankfully, I have never witnessed as much reverse racism within the church and that's probably a good thing. All of the blacks that I've been blessed to work with, including local church leadership, have been kindred spirits and I've never once witnessed racism from them. I have been attending a multi-ethnic church some this past year and I can honestly say that I have yet to notice the spirit of racism from any race.

I agree. In the truest sense, all sin was birthed as a result of the fall. I was speaking more with regard to modern timeline and trying to place this event within current day perspective.

As you can tell, I am passionate about the subject of prejudice and racism. It is not my intent to point fingers, cast blame, or make unfair generalizations. I apologize if anything I've posted has been received in any way other than the intended purpose.

All I know is that growing up in Mississippi (now living in Alabama), gives me unique insight to the spirit of prejudice (mostly whites toward blacks). Some of by best friends have been blacks and I can honestly say that I can't remember ever being prejudice in a mean spirited way, although I'm sure I have exhibited the ignorance of prejudice in other ways.

Blessings,

Probably not??????

Please, when is violence and taking justice into your own hands justified especially gang violence? 6 on 1 is a gang by the way.

FQ,

I thought you were busy researching Dajudge. 8)

Have you thoroughly studied this case? I do not agree with the 6 on 1 beating... neither do I agree with a criminal prosecution for the event.

I do think that proper school expulsion for everyone involved, white or black, could have kept this from becoming a national media circus.

What do you expect though in a town where the barber proclaims he hasn't cut a black man's hair in his 24 year's of business?

Why should there not be a criminal prosecution? 6 boys committed assault and battery and at least one of those boys has a criminal history of such. They are lucky they are alive cause where I went to high school they all would have been shot dead.
I will not argue that the town may very well be racist but the law is the law and the 6 kids broke it.
